Jumping into the front suspension.
I took it all apart. wire wheeled and did a half-arse job sand blasting the upper and lower arms before painting them satin black. Installed new upper and lower ball joints. Some 7" slam bags and 3" drop spindles.

I somehow ended up with 2 left sided upper bag plates so had to cut, re bend and weld them up before installing.

I managed to break my vice trying to use it as a press too. OOOPS!

I put the old hubs and wheels on as I was really keen to see how low it would be.

Unfortunately not low enough.
So now im thinking of my next moves.im 130mm off the deck and I know the wheel/tyre combo i plan on running will get me 40mm lower. Ive now just seen guys have reversed the cups and set them down into the LCA to drop the bag mount alil more, might get me another 50mm?

I wanted to avoid doing a Z notch.
truck looks great and what a nice shop you've got. That's a lot of cast to break, wow!

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

Slow progress but i did manage to remove the inner guards from the front clip(rusty bolts in hard to reach areas suck) so i could double check wheel position in fender.

Im happy with that.

Currently doing some measuring and drawing for a rear notch.

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

Posting a small update as reading back through what ive done so far keeps me motivated to push on.

I drew up C notch sections on CAD and had them laser cut.

Lock in gussets with holes for cross members.

Lots of welding to do, should keep me busy.

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

I ruined my first attempt at the chassis back half. Learnt from my mistakes and this is dummying up the 2nd revision.

Decided to build a chassis jig to get it all square and hold it all in place.

A bit of mig action.

Made a rear cross member to reinforce where the 4link will mount to chassis.

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

Its hard to keep this in order as I was kinda doing a few things at the same time.

I made a 4 link using nice big 2" od 1/4 wall cromolly tube.

And a watts link.

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

Trying to fit these massive 12" triple bellow airbags came with a few obstacles.

Made a diff truss to mount the bags to.

The top mounting points were a lot easier made with a laser cut piece of plate.

Like a glove!

Re: 1957 Chevy farm truck from Australia

After the bags and suspension 4links where all in I was able to cut the truc off the chassis table and have her rolling. big win.

And thats where I am up to now. Time to properly mount the front clip and start with body work.

Thank you for the kind words.

As for powerplants, The dream was a 2stroke turbo detroit+ twin stick shift but now heading down the direction of big block chev.

I actually bought a crew cab c20 which was rusted out BAD and parted it out, keeping the running 454+TH400 for myself.

But things snowballing as they do, I recently bought a 1962 Impala 4door hardtop. Pretty uncommon thing here in Australia.

The paint is stuffed but its solid enough and a really good driver.

While I wasnt in the market for another car, the previous owner of this 62 gave it a birthday sometime ago in the form a GM performance 502 crate motor.

So now im thinking cruise a 62 chevy for a summer or 2, using my 454 as a dummy fit in the truck, then swap my old unknown 454 into the 62 and flick it. Keeping the 502 for my truck.
