Re: LS1 No start conditon

I would definitely be pulling the heads. Something is not right. It looks like your pushrods were way too long, but it seems unlikely they would be so long that it causes the valve to hit the piston.

Some timing gears have multiple marks. Did you by chance use the wrong mark?

Re: LS1 No start conditon

What a bummer. Maybe before expensive counselling sessions a few cold ones?
I hate to say it but I would pull the engine and check everything. I know its a major pain but then you will know for sure what you got engine wise.

Re: LS1 No start conditon

The motor started today. Like it should, touch the key and it's running.
Came down to two issues.
The cam timing was way off. Sadly I can't contribute it to anything but bad eyesight.
I replaced the push rods with new BTR hardened push rods.
Rechecked the compression. All the cylinders were above 160psi.
Put it all back together and it fired right off. Idled like a champ.
My goal is to be able to drive it down the alley next week.
Some minor things need to be addressed like a drivers seat.
Thanks to everyone that gave encouragement and suggestions.
Much appreciated.

Re: LS1 No start conditon

Good deal! Looking at those pushrods, my guess would be that if you had a good set of hardened pushrods and the timing was off, you might be replacing a lot of valves.

Re: LS1 No start conditon

It sucks that you had so much trouble, but at least you got it going! Should be pretty smooth sailing from here on out.

Yes, I believe you are correct. Hardened push-rods would have likely wasted the exhaust valves.

I wrote "Came down to two issues" but only listed one. Most would have figured it out if reading the complete post. The other was the defective harness. The one between the main motor harness and the coils. Purchased on Ebay and it was assembled backwards. (i.E. looking at the wrong side of the connector) The pins were reversed left to right. The plug at the coil end, only one row of pins there.

It is so satisfying to here it run, only reaching in and touching the key. No mad pumping of the throttle required. On the other hand it was an eye opener, pun intended, on how bad my eyes are. And yes, I had my glasses on. Dam getting old is the pits but the "die young and leave a beautify corpse" option is already gone. LOL.
Cheers.

I had Laser surgery on both eyes about 2 years ago and it has been fantastic. No cheaters glasses unless the print is really small or the lighting is poor.

Wow wee! Dodged a pretty big bullet there! Those are the most bent pushrods I've ever seen with out some serious Head damage. Although those 243's would be nice on there.

Remember it never started. I bent them by hand while rotating the motor with a flywheel turning tool.

The eBay harnesses are bad for not being pinned correctly, yours being the coil pack harness. Glad you got it figured out!

Re: LS1 No start conditon

Ebay is a good place to purchase China at it's worst. The eBay harness was a bargain at $29 for the pair. Purchase went to heck when I paid $250 for help to find the issue. The guy that converted the main harness found it, not me. I was looking at the incorrect side of the plug. Evidently the same issue the manufacture had. Turns out the builder could have made them for me! I never checked. He showed me where the plug was numbered, I didn't see that either. Iit was partially hidden under the weather pak silicon seal. Now I looking at everything with optics.
Good news is I have moved onto other things that need to be finished. Closing in on a running driving truck for this summer after two years of work. ECM still has a code for the electric fans as they are not connected. I am working on resolving that at the moment. I had two fans and two relays, one low temp and one high. I am going to change it to a three relay two fan set up. Might write that up in a separate thread.
Cheers.

Re: LS1 No start conditon

Is the third relay for ac to kick the high speed fan on when in use?

The third allows for two speeds on both fans instead of one or both running at full speed.
Works like this:
Low temp computer ground, from the computer, runs both fans at 1/2 speed.
High Temp from the computer runs both a full speed.
Air Cond ground runs both at full speed.

Re: LS1 No start conditon

I would like to see the pin out on the relay and use this on my truck as well. Will be interested to see the post on it.
