They likely had several trucks dolled up to look nearly the same and only one or two had the hidden compartment. Possibly only opening on one side depending on what the scene required. The truck in the first post picture obviously doesn't have the side compartment. Typically production companies had several specialized camera mounted and several stunt vehicles that were reinforced, had tow cable hookups, and had driveline parts removed to lighten them for jumps etc that only had to look like the complete vehicle from 10, 20, ... feet. I believe they had between 5 & 10 1982-1985 Pontiac Firebirds for the Knight rider series and dozens of '68 & '69 Chargers for the General Lee not to mention the other screen vehicles that they needed duplicates of. One of the things that make TV and Movie productions with vehicles expensive.
