LS flywheel bolts
I am replacing the rear main seal on my 5.3L Yukon. Are the flywheel bolts torque to yield and will they need to be replaced? If I need to replace them, where can I get them? Where can I look up the torque specs for this engine?

I've used the stock ones over and I have used ARP. No failures with either. They are an odd ball size so you can't get 10.9 bolts down at the local hardware store.
I don't recall the torque spec. Make sure to use Loctite to seal the bolt threads or you will get a oil leak. |

i want to say they are re usable...i reused mine. this is from ls1tech.com
1. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a first pass in sequence to 20 N·m (15 lb ft). 2. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a second pass in sequence to 50 N·m (37 lb ft). 3. Tighten the engine flywheel bolts a final pass in sequence to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

only ones ive found that specify tty are head, rod, and balancer bolts

I've seen photos of the carnage that results when a flywheel lets loose. I'm okay with reusing bolts elsewhere, but I wanted the best bolts possible to join the flywheel and the crankshaft together.
I used ARP 234-2801 bolts. These are actually intended for LT1 gen5 engines, but they fit fine in a LS engine. They have a much longer thread length than stock bolts, but are not long enough to hit the bearing cap behind the crank flange. This is assuming you're using a 4.8/6.0 truck flywheel. If you're using a car flywheel, it might be thinner, and the bolts might stick out too far on the front side of the flange.

The bolts are not torque to yield.
Been around a long time and never observed a bolt failure on a flywheel. I have seen the results of the flywheel explosions from centrifugal force but not from the bolt failure. I have reused them many times. Just be sure to take a wire wheel to the threads to get the green sealer off and put new sealer on the threads. I use Permatex sealer. If they leak, you will have oil over your flywheel and clutch as the holes are drilled through on LS engines.
