Cargo light

What is supposed to turn on the cargo light on my 72. I can't seem to turn it on.

Re: Cargo light

Far as I remember it is the headlight switch. turn it clockwise I think until the dome light comes on and the cargo light should come on also.

Re: Cargo light

small switch under the interior dome light - should have a "cargo lamp" placard on it.

Re: Cargo light

Both are correct.
However, the interior dome light has to be on as does the switch at the back of the cab. They are powered by the same circuit. I think GM did this so we didn't discharge out battery with the cargo lamp because we forgot it was on.

So this is true if the switch is left in the on position.
Cheers

Besides simplification (one less wire to run) another reason might be so we are less likely to drive with the cargo lamp inadvertently left on. White light to the rear is illegal in most places.
