Uncles '71 Tow Rig
My Uncle used to be a Drag Racer, and used his Suburban to tow his car all over Texas in the '70's and '80's. This is the reason I fell in love with the 3-Doors. Wish I had a better pic...

Re: Uncles '71 Tow Rig
The Suburban that planted the seed. Very cool to have this history with Suburbans.
Suburbans were always a popular tow vehicle. This was back before extended cabs and crew cabs. If you had to tow and bring more people, Suburban was it. Suburbans had that niche market. The '71 Suburban I had (wish I had a picture) was exceptionally well kept. It was the tow vehicle for a Corvette restorer. I always complimented him on it. He worked at the Chevy dealer where I bought parts (80s/90s) and I talked to him a lot. One day he told me he was going to sell it and he thought he's offer it to me first. I felt so privileged along with obligated. It was my duty to own that Suburban and I made it happen!

You want a picture of it? Here we go. It was a medium blue '71 Custom Deluxe/10 with blue interior, 402/TH400, loaded with options, 8" rallyes with narrow 70 series whitewalls, roof rack. It had recently been hit in the rear and the guy insisted on all N.O.S. parts for the repair (remember, a Vette restorer who worked at a Chevy dealership). So it had a new bumper, tailgate, lights, and gas tank. I sure couldn't tell it had ever been repaired. Yes, I really wish I still had that!
