Bench Seat Hinge Question
Hello. I have an 82 that I've been working on since I purchased it back in Oct. One issue I'm having is figuring out what's goin on with my seat hinge. The PO covered the seat, actually stitched fabric to the seat, so they had to remove it at some point. The seat will move front to back but will not lock. When I got it it did not come with the hinge covers. I appreciate any and all help.

Re: Bench Seat Hinge Question
The 81-87 seats don’t lock in the back position. You can manually tilt the seat forward to get behind the seat. The previous year of seats, 73-80, are the only ones that locked in place. And you had to release them before it would tilt forward.
And I can’t see where they would been able to stitch the cover to the seat itself. The covers are hog ringed to the frame. If you go to my thread on restoring bench seats, there are a lot of pictures on there that should help you understand.

Re: Bench Seat Hinge Question
Thanks TKCR. My seat will fall forward and back with no help. A good stomp of the brakes and the seat will go forward. Is there no way to prevent that?

Re: Bench Seat Hinge Question
That’s what the catch is for. It’s tangling there freely. When you hit the brakes hard, it’s the seatbelt that should hold you, but the catch will “catch” on the saw teeth looking thing, and keep the seat from flying back and you hitting your head on the back glass. Hang on and I have a description of how all that works. But I have to find it, and then I’ll post it.
