Re: Longhorns rock

Man, I always get jealous of you guys with original identification tags still on your glovebox. I guess we used our glovebox too many times to hold our burgers and fries at the A&W drive in.

A couple of years ago, I hauled 1 cubic yard of crushed rock to my house a few times. That was just over 3000 lbs per load in my little halfton, yeah I drove sloooow.

Everyone asks why I use my truck like that and I have to remind them its still my old truck hiding under fresh paint.

Re: Longhorns rock

mine is a 9000 GVW
I've haulled 3000 pounds of bricks in my old 1500 GMC... I couldn't believe how slow it was going up the overpass around the corner from here. Only had the one ton loaded once... had a complete longhorn frame, front and rear suspention (all cut up in small pieces) an extra longhorn bed on top, a small block minus one head and intake, TH350 tranny, and 4 or 5 16.5 rims with crappy tires and a couple 16 inch split rims with tires. It was bumping the overloads blasting through intersections. With the cad 500 I had in it at the time, it pulled the weight no problem.

Re: Longhorns rock

9000 sounds more typical since my K-20 is 7500.

A friend of mine sold his on E-Bay a year or so ago for about 4 grand and it was cherry................I kinda kick myself for not getting it. It went to a guy in Idaho that rode the bus out here to Medford and he couldn't believe his eyes when he actualy got to see the truck. Hedrove it home. The truck was turn key with new paint and totaly straight.

I hope the owner is happy with it.

You can probably glaze some pots while you're at it. That's pretty cool.

Re: Longhorns rock

Sorry guys, I ruined mine. This one will most likely never see a hard days work (in the bed) ever again. Towing will be a different story but as much as it took to get it to this point I think my wife would kill me if I didnt take the 78 long bed 4x4 or the 5x10 utility dump trailer behind it might even work. But oh well I guess it will have to do. Life was almost over for this one when I got it. I was just glad I could save it.

Re: Longhorns rock

From one Longhorn owner to another, good job of actually USING the thing! I've loaded mine a few times at greater than 3000 lbs and it had no problems. In fact, it rode like my '67 Cadillac! I didn't want to unload it! Hey, I hope you have some cold beer to go with that 900 DEGREE pizza! It looks dang good!

Re: Longhorns rock

this might be off the subject but-are the gmc's called longhorns too? or can someone maybe give me a idea of what model truck i might have? the badge on the front fenders say--GMC2500 v-eight
all this is listed on the order sticker on the inside of the glovebox door
it has a side bed tool box, 3 factory gas tanks, a big heavy duty rear bumper also had a factory bed mounted storage/tool box and also big towing mirrors--all of witch i removed except for the side mounted tool box door THATS JUST COOL

look over this website. http://www.longhorntrucks.freeservers.com/
You never mentioned an 8 1/2 foot bed in your description there, nor the proper custom camper badging that most GMC's had, nor the extended wheel base. So off what little you have provided, you just have a normal GMC 2500 fleetside truck. No special name, becouse it is just the normal 3/4 ton.
