Research complete....
Ok, I have finished the research on the bolt-in tank for 67-72 Chevy trucks. The actual size of the tank will be 27" x 20" x 7" or 8". The depth variation will determine the capacity. I recommend the 7" tank for the body draggers and the 8" for all others. The 7" deep tank has a 16 gallon capacity. The 8" tank will have an 18 gallon capacity. All tanks will come with sending unit, filler neck or tube of choice, tank straps, tank crossmembers and hardware. This tank will involve the removal of the rearmost crossmember on the frame. One of the new tank crossmembers will replace the aforementioned rearmost crossmember. Tank will have a fuel pickup and vent line. This tank will come standard with a fill neck on the top of the tank to be filled from the bed floor. I can put a filler hose attachment anywhere one would desire for a remote mount filler door, etc. Price for this kit is $325 + shipping. Turn-around time is 2-3weeks. If anyone needs more deatils, feel free to give me a call. Thanks, Mark Fowler

That sounds like good news. It won't be long and I'll be ready for a tank. Will the tanks be baffled? Aluminum? I'de sure like to see some pics once someone installs one of these. Thanks...Stroker

You need to add this to your products page on you web site with the pictures of the construction. On one of the other posts you mentioned an in-tank fuel pump for FI setups. Is it an off the shef pump that can be replaced from any auto parts store? Can you weld in extra bungs for Fuel Injected applications and AN fittings? (Something that can be capped off if not being used) Is there another way to mount it to the frame rails without using straps? Maybe some tabs on the tank it self? Like the one use in the Copperhead build on TrucksTV. For some reason I don't like the idea or the look of the tank straps. |

Can it be used with a bolt on hide-a-hitch, the one ECE sells?

Sorry...
I must have missed this post. mcmlxix, I didn't respond to your questions, I guess at the time, the email notification wasn't working. To answer your questions, the fuel injection assembly, that I sell with the tanks, has a pump that can be replaced by one from your local parts store. The 99 and newer Chevy pumps are a one-piece unit that includes the sending unit. This sound ultra convienent until you have to replace the pump. $300!. The in-tank assemblies I put in my tanks are no more than $275 depending on what engine is to be used. As far as AN fittings, yes, I can put any size and any number of them in the tank. I don't like to mount tanks with flanges. Frames twist and teak and with a full tank of fuel (weight), who knows, after time it could develop a hairline crack. Why chance it. I am sure that I could make polished stainless straps an option. borax, I don't know if it will fit or not. I have not seen one of them. Have you got a pic??

FuelCellGuy, just curious why 7" or 8" for the depth why not 9" or 10" would that hang to low for a 4/6 drop? The blazer tanks are 12-3/4" deep. I was thinking about a 26x20x10 would there be any problems on this size? just wanted to get more capacity. You can reply by p/m if you prefer.

I have a 96 LT-1 that will be going into the truck this summer and I know you are putting (or put) a 95 LT-1 in yours. The reason I was asking about the multiple fittings is because I may start with the stock carbed 307 and get the tank setup first. Then swap to the LT-1 later. I think I need AN -6 for delivery but Im not sure about the return line. I'm also not sure about the different needs for the different fuel delivery systems. Can I run a carb for now and then hook up the FI later? What pump would you use for the LT-1? p/n? Can I use the sending unit from the in tank pump and still run the stock mechanical pump for the carb for now? I too like the idea of a larger tank and will be running the ECE 4/6 and eventually their hidden hitch ... If I remember it mounted to the rear frame rails but I don't know the clearance across the rear. |

Specs...
crazy4chevs,
The tank depth can be determined by personal preference. If one doesn't mind seeing it hang down as low as a Blazer tank, the depth question is not an issue. Sure I can make them 10" deep. mcmlxix, Yes you can run multiply fittings and a carb for now. The sending unit will be a stand alone setup, it will work either way. I am not sure what the part number is for the pump but I would almost reccommend going ahead and buying the pump and installing it in the tank the first go round. Plug the supply fitting and use the vent and return line that comes mounted on the pump assembly. That way, you won't have to completely drop the tank and cut the hole for the pump. All you would have to do is hookup the power wires and the supply to the engine. Far simpler. As far as the hitch, I guess someone that has one can hopefully give us measurements after it is installed. I don't have one and probably won't need one. We will have to research that. Later, FCG |

liability
are there any liabity/ insurance issues concerning install of such a fuel tank .i found this website which addresses a "legal" fuel tank.
legal fuel tank it's kinda scary to picture a 10" plus deep tank on a truck with a 6" drop -maybe a skid plate or forward edge protection plate? |

FuelCellGuy,
Just a thought on the pumps and sending units: When I put an LT1 in my '91 S10 I used a pump out of a '94 CPI (Central Port Fuel Injected) S10 Blazer. It was a direct replacement for the S10 fuel pump, and it had the correct flow and psi for the LT1. It was only like 65.00, too. I think the S10 sending units are fairly cheap also. Just trying to help keep cost down a little for your customers.

Any update on the hitch fitment or maybe the dimensions... I was watching an old re-run of Trucks where he put this hitch on Copperhead. It looked like it lined up with the end of the frame.. Ill have to watch it closley next time.

How about a direct bolt in Blazer tank for the 2wd blazer crowd? I want a fuel cell that doesn't hang down as low as the stock one. Also want the filler neck and stock sending unit in the stock locations. How much shipped to 65251 zip code. Prefer at least 16 gallon capacity. Thanks, lolife.

If there is a way to come up with a 30 gallon tank like BOSS asked, I would definietly be interested. I am looking for something that is going to look great as I am installing a bed lift on my 70 4x4. I am wanting something thats going to catch eyes. Not much on the black smaller tanks. Thanks.....
