Wife Got A New Truck!

Hey gang, sorry about posting a message about the 53 I just picked up for my wife but the 47-55 board is really, really quiet. Picked this truck up last week. Went to check it out three times trying to find an excuse not to buy it. I think I did okay for $2500. Truck is partially restored, running, straight body, good glass, painted frame...and my wife had to have it. The truck is a model 1420 3/4 ton (didn't know there was a difference between U.S. and Canadian models till I bought it). It needs minor work and a few parts (mirrors, wipers, bed and tailgate. What I would really like to know is what is available for wheels on this old 8 bolt. Any info and or pics would be greatly appreciated. Anyone with a handle on parts would also be great.
thanks.

Thumbs up

Hey, no big deal! Remember, don't sweat the petty stuff, but pet the sweaty stuff !!!

Both of those trucks are great projects. Something I've always wondered. Could the frame and suspension of a 60-72 truck with trailing arms get underneath the body of a 50's era truck?

Would sure make driving one of those older truck a great deal of fun!

$2500 was a bargain, nice truck! So, what are your plans for it? Maybe a V8 and automatic tranny or are you keeping her original?

Nice truck! Congrats!
I used to have a 50 3/4-ton with the corner windows. Heard about guys using newer chev 8-lugs (?).....my split rim killers were'nt in too bad a shape so kept em. Also heard about the 73-87 frames going under them......mostly for 4x4 and being able to cruise hwy speeds......totally up to you-very cool either way.

ps-mine is now out by Portland,OR still working, hauling stuff for a small vineyard!

Thanks guys. Dubie that's a fine looking project your wife has too! I'm going to run this truck just the way it is for a couple of years. May even leave it 6 volt for the time being....don't see any major reason not to at this point. Open to advice on this. Right now I'm in the truck rotation mode. Just finishing up putting fresh heads on my 67 at the moment. Soon as that is finished this week, she comes out and my daily driver 71 goes in for some body work. When 71 is done, I will start on the BB 454 I picked up a month ago. The fresh 350 currently in the 67 will probably end up in the 53. Would just like to get some nice rubber and wheels for the 53, then I will just safety it and see how the wife likes driving it. Going to be a busy year. Like I said in my first post, anyone with pics of some cool 8 bolt wheels - appreciate you sending them my way.
ps. why the heck don't my profile pic show up when I submit a post? It shows up if I go to my user window. Geez, I run a department full of computers - you'd think I would have a handle on this.

I heard that your profile pic shows up after about 20 post or so. Not sure.

Good luck with all the trucks you are working on.
