Wiring Woes

I just picked up an 84 s-10 blazer .It has the 2.8 and is pretty nice.My neighbor says it wont start and thinks its wiring.he said right before it stopped running, you could drive it down the road and the dome light would flicker on and off for about 5 or 10 minutes then just stay on.The battery is dead right now.Any ideas?????????It has 72k miles and i got it for $250.No rust fair to decent paint and interior, new tires, new a/c.
