Agree with ring sealing, 500mi is normal break in before you stand on it. 2k-3k should be done. Make sure baffle in PCV location is not getting blasted with rocker oil... One think about rings... is you can have blowby without oil consumption, some brands of oil have distinct odors. Good luck with the breakin.
