Anybody had any luck removing this black tar like substance that is on the fire wall? (highlighted by the yellow arrows).

I saw somebody once removing the rubberized mat boards on the inside by freezing it with something like Freon? They froze it and then lightly tapped is with a hammer and it just shattered,

I sharpened up a putty knife when I rebuilt my dads AC system and replaced and resealed everything. He has an 83. I'll post up a pic of it tomorrow. I have it here doing an injector pump on it. It's a sweet looking truck. He's the original owner.

wire wheel, but if you plan to leave the paint I would not use a wire wheel

You could try dry ice . There are companies that blast with dry ice no damage to paint .

This or CO2 if you have a bottle laying around. Dry ice would work better

When I refurbed my 77 firewall the black stuff was hard not pliable. I just used a putty
knife to get the big stuff off then some 220 grit sand paper to finish it up. The stuff came off very easily.

Good to know!

I haven't started but I am fearing it as I have heard horror stories of people not getting it off and turns into a gooey mess and you end up having to repaint.
