The Low Down
Need to raise the back end, Bottoms out on the axel bumpers, that have been cut down by 1 inch. Started out with 4in drop springs and 2 inch lowering blocks, was too much. Took out lowering blocks, but still bottoms out on the bumpers. So may need to go to 3 inch springs or back to stock springs and put the 2 inch bocks back in. Have not seen 2 inch drop springs offered. Also probably need to remove the rear shock locators and go back to stock mounts.
Any advise, other than air bags, to this matter would be appreciated. Thanks to all who reply. |

Re: The Low Down
Just to make sure I am reading correctly: You had 4" springs + 2" blocks for a total of 6" drop(?). Not surprised that bottomed out on a non C-notch truck. You removed the 2" blocks for now a 4" drop and you are still hitting the bump stops? That is a bit surprising but there are bump stops made for lowered rigs, I have some on mine. Gives you about another 1" before hitting. I don't think you need a C-notch with only 4" of drop.

Re: The Low Down
From what I've seen, with a 6" drop you get about an inch before hitting the bump stops. Trimming those usually eliminates bottoming out, with nothing in the bed. My project has 4/6 drop and I want to be able to use my bed or tow. I do not want to cut my frame for c-notches. I was thinking I'd go to 4" rear springs because I have never heard of people having bottoming issues with 4". I also like the look the of stock rake, but 4" lower. I also like the leveled look that 4/6 gives. So I think what I will do is install bags in place of coils. That way I can change the stance according to my mood and adjust the rear up for hauling/towing. Not only raising rear but also increasing weight capacity.

Re: The Low Down
I have 6" drop thats 4" springs and 2" blocks with no c notch and unless I hit a hard drop/pothole it never bottoms out. I cut the bump stops down. I do have relocated and shorter shocks, so you if your still using stock length shocks and in the stock location that could be a possible reason to your issue.

Re: The Low Down
Thanks to all the replies. I am not sure why it bottoms out with just 4 in. lowering springs, unless there are different spring rates by different vendors. All of my lowering stuff is Performance on Line, both front and rear. Had a mess of issues with the front, another story. I am thinking real hard about going with coil over kits for both front and back. Looking at CCP coil over systems.

Re: The Low Down
To CAMMARO BOY
I am using stock length shocks with relocators, would the shocks be what is actually bottoming and not the axel on frame. Would think that I would see damage to the shocks. Got the relocators so could use standard length shocks as was stated in Vendor mag. |

Re: The Low Down
PAPPY 2, easy way to tell would be it get it up high enough (Safely) where you could crawl underneath and watch while someone compressed the rear suspension. If it's truly the stock bump stops, they may need to be removed and fabricate/get short ones that offer more room and still provide a rubber stop. But if you don't care about the stance then raise it up.
