283 rocker covers get a facelift
I was given a pair of 283/327 Corvette rocker covers. One had a huge hole cut in it by some dumby-head.
I had a guy TIG weld the hole shut and add weld so I could re-form the script to say Corvette again. Turned out good IMO. I still wasn’t sure I would like them better than the original 283 CHEVROLET script covers. I decided to polish the Corvette covers and paint a black background between the fins. I then removed the paint at the top edge of the fins and top surface of the script. I LIKE IT! Last pic shows both polished but still need to paint one. Paint makes a big difference. Feels good to turn junk into something nice!

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
That came out real nice! When I rebuild my engine, I'm thinking about a set of finned aluminum covers.

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
x2. The correction effort for the hole turned out well. You barely notice it w/the paint.

Seems like a common thing.

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
Markb01 modified a classic set of valve covers to include a PVC valve and did it rather discreetly to where it didn't detract from the look.

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
I figured that monster hole was for crankcase ventilation. Newer engines don't have a road draft tube or provision for a vent in the oil fill tube, etc. I have a big block, and I won't be using covers like that. This was a nice save!

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
All done. Needs a clear coat to slow down oxidation, but wow what a difference!

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
That's right, beautiful parts. The valve covers will enchant your engine bay.

Re: 283 rocker covers get a facelift
I did kind of the same with the tall finned ones but just polished the fins after oxidizing then heat paint baked.
