Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
I loved Boss Hogg's caddy on the Dukess of Hazzard when I was a kid! It's my ebay handle too...
Btw, I started a frame of resto-mod like yourself at the beginning of this year on a truck that my grandfather had that he sold to my dad (who seemingly tried to run it into the ground then let it sit and rot) and now I have started trying to get it back together after I acquired it. It was in about the same shape as your truck, and your build has really lit a fire under me! So thank you for the inspiration!

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
I'm glad you're OK with CSM. I had already sent my instrument panel, glove box, and emblems to them, and ordered a seat cover and dash pad from them while I was at it. They didn't ask for payment up front though.

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Hide the ammo men. I'm a going to shoot myself!
Wheels did not fit. We called Cragar twice (actually carlisle) and checked that the bore size would work on a c-10. They did not. So, Cragar 391's are a no go for our trucks. Anyone got a suugestion? I'll go up to 17 inch, no polished aluminum, and period correct. Ideas? |

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Those ones that Zoomin' posted are sweet. You would be the first to try those on a truck. I have a pair of those 15"s as original off of a 72 Chevelle. They are a great looking wheel, and would be period correct. I think they would look killer on your truck. Trevor

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Those are sweet! Yep, I'd turn those. Especially for the money.
I went and shopped them on the website and find no reference to bolt pattern other than I found them in the Camaro catalog. I'll call them tomorrow and see. |

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Argh! I bet those wheels are 4.75, not 5.0. With 5" backspace there's room for adapters if you want.

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
AWESOME build there, gold. I really like how you word things....like in the original post about your father's passing. Very well put.
Really really dig the finish on the frame and suspension components. It's out of the norm and still looks really really good. I've never been a big fan of super high gloss black on undersides. Onto the wheels.... Have you thought about some bigger inch(17") rally wheels? Might be pretty neat custom touch to paint the centers the same as the body, though that wouldn't really go with the theme you're after. Here's a thread for you to take a look at... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=406907 I look forward to seeing future updates.

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Thanks Bad71!
How goes it up there in the land of infinite poplars and the hope of a nascar race? Thanks for the compliments. I like these kind of finishes because they're so easy to clean up 5 years from now. The whole truck could be picked picked up by someone like the Duncan's and made dead stock very easily. On the wheels. I pushed the button on the new 1 piece Cragars yesterday. Ordered them in chrome versus gray painted or black. I'm so disgusted by the whole wheel decision process that I told my Les Schwab guy not to worry about tire sizes until we get the wheels in. 17x8's by the way. 4.5 on the bs. Tire size suggestions men? Last edited by 100gold; 06-12-2010 at 12:44 PM. |

Here's a wheel pic. I know, I know, boring boring but there's just something about timeless classics you know?

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
255/60's are about the widest you should go on 8" rims.
I think a wider sidewall would be more in keeping with the look. Btw, I'm getting my glove box door and stuff back this week from CSM. Fairly quick turnaround, and it would have been sooner if they didn't wait for the seat covers. I wanted it to ship together to save a few bucks. |

Wow... When I saw this in the Cheyenne Super thread, I had no idea what you'd gone through to get it to that point. That's one of those that you hope you never have to part with.

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
TYhe truck looked great before the trim was installed, but there is nothing that beats these trucks with factory trim in place. Great job! The paint turned out super nice and that is a truck that anyone would be proud to own! Whats next?

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
Thanks guys and you especially Harold. You've got a part in there somewhere!
I've put 4000 miles on it this summer so far. It looks like it's going to take a new motor this winter. The motor I bought is not so good. I saved some money, but not in the long run. ouch! |

Re: Worth Restoring- Dad's old truck
I see that no one has been here in a while. I found the link through the BAT auction. I hope it does well there. I really enjoyed reading all 5 pages of this build. Not too many honest short bed Supers around-- and in Black no less! Nice truck.
