Windshield Fitment 55-59
I have seen quite a few 55-59 trucks' windshield fitment issues. Where the cab windshield frame comes around on the bottom and then goes up, the rubber does not seem to fit well, and it's common to even have an opening to the inside of the cab.
Here is a truck that was really nice - lots of nice mods and paint, but yet there are fitment issues on both sides. On this side, its open to the inside of the cab. Is there something we can do in the fab stage to help this problem? |

I had the same problem with my 50 because I bought the cheap gasket. Cut that junk out and bought a Steele rubber gasket , problem fixed, spend the money on quality product.

Re: Windshield Fitment 55-59
I just put in a windshield into my 55.2 truck 2 weeks ago. I had help from a someone who has years of glass installation experience & I learned a lot!
Steele rubber products are probably the best, but they are expensive. My car/truck guy friends highly recommended Precision Rubber weather strip. It is a quality supplier. I bought it right here in SoCal for less than the cost of Steele & it was in stock (got it in 2 days)! More importantly I learned to inspect & prep the cab PRIOR to installation of glass. Check the entire cab area of sheet metal, where the rubber seals the glass to cab. Inspect both the inner & outer panels around the spot welds. Grind smooth sharp burrs & wavey and/or uneven sheet metal surfaces. Remove/ repair all rust. Do a fit cab/ windshield fit check (minus the rubber). You should have a gap between cab & the glass of 1/8" (approx.) Installing this large & curved windshield is not easy, take your time & be patient. |

On my truck I used SoftSeal rubber. It worked pretty good but not like Steele. I'm not complaining. I got in a rush when it was time to FINALLY put my windshield in after a long paint jail sentence. But if it ever needs changing I'll definitely use Steele then.
