Post O.K. GENIUS MECHANICS

I know this is off the subject but I replaced the alternator on my 70 1/2 formula firebird(400) and something is still not right. The alternator is internal regulator and this alternator test good but when I crank the car and remove the positive cable from the battery, it dies. Any ideas???????
