So I'm rebuilding my dual tank fuel selector valves (aka Selectrol 6795) on my 74 C20. So far so good. Have them cleaned up, got rid of any rust, got new rubber O-rings for the selectors, and now I'm ready to re-assemble.

Question is here: lubrication for the selector arm shaft and then the contact on the metal plate to help the selector slide from side to side.

While it should now move much easier now that I have it cleaned up with new O-rings, I'd like to apply some lubricant, at least to the shaft arm. I'm thinking lithium grease should be fine, as I kind of doubt it's exposed to much fuel. And then I'm thinking there's not much I can do about the metal plate contact, other than polish it so it slides better, which I did.

Thoughts here?

At present, I can tell you be very careful with the valve plunger/stopper screws. They are very small and break easily. I broke mine over torqueing it. I had to locate a whole new unit just for that part. I have been told you can JB weld it, but I don't really like JB weld.

Other than that, seems to be going ok. I guess the next check will be to see if the gasket maker actually works. Not like you can find original gaskets for these things.

So far, so good. Just need some more gasket material to make one gasket then I can button them up and reinstall.

Turned out great. Smooth action. Bought correct fuel gasket material and made mine off the template in the pic above. Looking forward to getting it back on the truck and trying it out.

I've only used one tank so far as the truck is not yet back on the road, but that tank works great.

For those who wanted "before" pics, I found a couple. Wasn't in horrible condition, wasn't in great condition.

I thought I should give a quick update here. I ended up pulling my selector valves and they were slightly leaking. I believe a bead of fuel resistant sealer is going to be required in addition (or instead of) the lid gasket. I will probably still use the gasket and add sealer. For the time being, with gas at well over $5/gal here, I'm just going to use the one tank. If gas ever goes down, I'll put it back up on the rack and reinstall it. For now, I'm tired of restoring stuff, so I'm just going to enjoy driving the truck 5 miles at a time. Stupid gas prices....
