33x10.5 on Factory Wheels
My 71 currently has a 4" lift with 35x12.5x15s mud terrains on it. Since this will primarily be driven on the street (75% road with maybe 25% forest service roads) I want to go with a more street friendly setup. Thinking about a 33x10.5 BFG All Terrain and ultimately a drop to maybe a 2 or 3" lift.
My ideal would be to find a set of 15x8 steelies (like everyone else I know) but I have had no luck. Alternatively I was looking at some 15x8 or 15x10 Mickey Thompson Classic IIIs. I ended up finding these for what I think is a really good deal. I believe these 15x7s were a factory aluminum option on the early 80s from what I have read. So, my questions. Not sure exactly what the backspace and bore size is. Anyone know if they should fit? Also, any issue with running 10.5" wide tires on a 7" wide rim versus an 8" wide one? I know they fall at the minimum spec for the tire. Any thoughts on how they may look or how they may handle? Thanks! |

I'm running 33x12.5 BFG all-terrain tires on 15x8 factory rally wheels. I just took the body lift off and went back to stock height. It hasn't hit the road yet, but it looks like it will work fine.

Interesting the Coker's are only three nub, and it looks like the shape is a bit different from the popular Chevy version of the 15x8. I wonder if there is a disk brake clearance issue?

There are some older threads here that discuss 33” tire fitment on wheels narrower than 8” with example photos. Member Bouncytruck may have posted the photos? Wheels are those that replaced rally wheels in late 80s or so I’d expect they’d fit. 33” tires clear fine on stock height first gen K5’s.
The offset on the Coker is the same as those OEM and the CUCV 15” wheels that accommodate disc brakes. I’d be curious if these are hub-centric (like OEM) or lug-centric in design. The latter I’ve read can be harder have properly balanced and require some sort of adapter to do so.

Looks like Franks 15x8 6 lugs are smoothie style. Meaning the caps you can run on it are like the style on the silver wheels in his picture. No outer nubs, takes the inner style nub caps.

Picked these wheels up this weekend and I really like them. They are 15x7 but after reading a few other threads I think this will work fine. I plan to run a 33x10.5 so the 7" wide wheel should give me a good overall look. A little less sidewall bulge than the common 12.5 wide tire on an 8" wide wheel.
I find it hard to make these decisions based on pictures but I guess at some point you just have to go for it. I am going to get rid of the tires and look into getting the wheels blasted and either painted or powder coated white. Obviously the caps that came with it are the wrong size except for one. Anyone know what are those wider caps are for? I will be keeping my eyes open for a fifth wheel for the spare as well as the correct caps. |

It will work fine. I remember my dad having 31x10.5 BFGs on those exact same alloy wheels on his '88 Sub.

Thanks for the pics. Definitely going with the 33x12.5. I will be putting the alloys up for sale and running the stealies. Will also start looking around for the correct caps if anyone has a line on them.
