47-59 Door window trim paint and body question

When do you leave the outside door window trim on the door for the final time? Right now, I'm working with the doors in high-build polyester at the moment. The trim has been media blasted, epoxy primed and touched up with putty. I would assume they would go on once the finish sanding of the doors are done and before sealing the doors before the painting process? Thx

usually everything gets painted and then any trim gets put on. this is so the entire surface gets the same color and if a trim part gets changed later the door will be the same color no matter the size or shape of the new trim part. thats the way i do it anyway. paint, cure, buff, assemble clean poished or painted trim parts or emblems or whatever.

That does make sense. Just to be clear, I'm talking about the outside one that fits over the lip and is held in by one screw in the window channel. It such a flimsy little piece of trim and hard to get in and out w/o scratching and bending things. I was thinking I could get it in final position and correct before final paint. But if it needs to wait, that's fine. Thx.

I'd side-step the whole issue and buy the repo stainless trim and install after paint. For a repo part, they fit pretty well

It's been a long time since I worked on the doors but if you attach a pic of the spot and the piece of trim that might help. Is it the wiper seal trim at the lower part of the glass? Anyway, if it were me, i would do any trim install after paint for the aforementioned reasons. If installing before paint, does that mean your glass is installed already as well?

Here is a link to the trim that I'm talking about. e015475 has a point and I've thought about this, but was concerned with the fitment of the repos. But, the Boss hasn't told me if she wants the trim to be stainless although it would match the other pieces on the truck. Thanks for your responses.

Yup, I'd still install after paint. When you took the trim off, was it painted under the trim or was it primer? If you dont paint it and the trim flexes for any reason then you're gonna see a little primer, which is gonna be noticed right away, nstead of body colour which you wont notice

It's dang if I do/dang if I don't deal. If you paint the door and trim separate you get a better final look but risk scratches. If you paint it with the trim on you might have a primer shadow plus having the risk of paint cracking or water getting to the primer and causing rust.
