Frustrated overheating, timing issue?

From how you describe it your coolant return isn’t working.
Pulling the cap off cold there should be coolant full to overflowing.
Full right to the overflow tube.
What kind of cap are you using?
I think you mentioned that before but I can’t find it in the posts.

I don’t remember how many lbs, but it’s the type with the red lever on top.

Can you recommend an overflow reservoir design that works well?

Those lever style don’t work in a return system.
You need a Normal 16# cap.

I always looked for return tanks that fit good. Mid 70’s impalas worked. I was lucky to have a buddy who had a hundred old cars on the back forty that I scrounged parts off.
Just measure the spot and look for something that fits. Or summit racing has pages of them.

I bought one of these setups from PICKMUP, and it works great. I'm using an RC32 radiator cap, as recommended lower down in that thread.

Here are some ideas. I personally like the G-body tank conversion even though I didn't go that route myself. (I discovered the G-body tank idea too late.)

Switched to a normal cap and the return is definitely working.


The new heads, intake, cam, timing set i just installed all work nice, too.

I got the 14" fans and shroud and the fans are quieter then the 12", I am very happy about that because those 12" fans are loud, the 12" fans are 1400cfm each and the 14" are 2200 cfm each.

I think those 14” fans are in my future.
