need some info on rad support

I changed my old 6 cyl. rad for a bit longer 350 rad. but it looks like I need some sorta extension for one end. 3 of the mounting pads line up except upper pass side. I new it wouldn.t but can,t find anything on the LMC parts that looks what I need. Here is pic of what I ,m talking about.

Re: need some info on rad support

Since you went to a longer rad of the 350 you have to change out the top and the shroud to a 350 that may have trouble with the 6Cyl because it off sit. If your shroud fit the rad over the sides of the both sides of fins. Another way to fix your upper support would be. To cut line on what ever side does not not have shroud mount. And piece in a little extension then re-weld pad on to the extension to fit area over the rad mount perch. Should be pretty easy to bend some metal to match or in piece weld in your self or take to and pieces to a body shop to weld or friend. Do a little clean up welds paint it will look factory 80% will not know what you did. The other way would have been to order 6Cyl rad that was thicker 1/2"- 1" that extra cooling
I hope this helps you.

Re: need some info on rad support

It just looks like a piece slides in there to use a wider rad. It,s made for a 78 350 that is isn,t tall like the heavy duty rad for 3/4 tons. They don,t sell a rad for a 350 that isn,t 2 inchs wider as far as I,ve seen online.

Re: need some info on rad support

Yes the rad support (LOWER) is made for all option factory rad set up, But the upper center plate and shroud are motor and fan specific.

Factory rad copper. Ok was your rad a copper rad was it taller then the one in the pic. Because if it was then your shroud may be to low now with the new rad.(copper rad you look in the fill area to see how mean tube wide and if the tube had holes in them, tube working have holes in the tubes. To see the core count it was really) (>if you had two count but the second tub did not have hole in then it was a signal core.<)
The old copper rad single core dual core three core for a/c heavy hauling, so the three core meaning three tube side by side about 1/4" wide and about 5/16" space between them. The new rad like in the pic cool a little better and they do not make the tube the same as the copper rad. The ALUM tub little bit bigger not as mean. they use the flow help make up the cooling and the Alum sucking heat out fasterr

Now 73-80 rad for the most part are taller but not as long.
Now 81-87 rad for most part are longer but not tall.
Now GM made so mean option 73-87
rad makes get the factory specific to set up factory (your)truck but over the year because 73-80 and 81-87 not the same there been some mix up over because GM used 73-80 Rad support and rad in the 1ton truck in 81 t0 87 run and the same for the 81-87 in 88 to 91 the years more after 1995 So the rad info has been confusing rad makers was not right no re write info sheet was not now new maker trying use old list with note missing got messed 1973-1991 rad makers.

So I would test fit your rad with the shroud upper mount to see if it in the the same place. (( or measure the Rad's at the mounts bottom to top for Hight, and center to center of the mounts for Length,))
So I hope this help you and others

I not sure I ever seen that on one as you saying. But if your right then your going to have to do some really hard looking in all the scrap yard any personals part trucks, for part because no one make the 6Cyl stuff 1973-80 center section upper rad support and shroud. I wish you good luck

Re: need some info on rad support

If your using a Electric fan this would be less of a problem you would still have to find the part should be add or modify upper center rad support as I said

Here is the one end that looks like something would slip into to give you the extra 2 inches and the other end is a finished piece

Re: need some info on rad support

I see you red out line. I do not see any weld nut on the rad support on either side so it bolt it. They had a piece rubber mount there you toke out the upper mounting rubber Cushing or it feel apart. That little hole in, what holds the nib that pulls throw that hole back side rubber Cushing. to keep rad from vibration and from moving. So after seeing your last two pic I'm pretty sure it does not work the way you think it did. But I'm not a 6Cyl only ever work three, but see a few in the scrap yards for others part.
