I have a factory shortbed. But it seems that the process and such would be the same as a fleet side. They have the same mounting locations. You just have to have a short step side bed.

If you are talking about the bedsides themselves, it is possible to shorten them to shortbed length. It's a lot of work to get right.

Yes, it's possible. If your bed sides are in good shape and you want to try to save the patina, go for it. If your sides are in poor shape and you are going to repaint, you might be better off buying new sides.
Check out this video made by member SkinnyG: It's for his 61, but the beds are similar for the step sides through the years, so same general idea.

It is no less worth it to shorten bedsides to be painted than to save patina. The condition of the metal is where you draw the line. It's skill/labor vs buy.

Nice thing about shortening a step bed us it can be done with a single cut in center of bed and step fenders will hide most of it.

Re: 1970 c/10 long step To short
The way I did it was remove the end stanchions, cut both ends, and keep fenders in their location. More work but it comes out looking factory

I would have never thought of that.
