Lower Bump Stops
I found lots of articles about them but no secrets to getting them installed?
The front suspension on my 68 had drop springs and was sitting on the bump stops....and they were shot. In the process of upgrading to disc brakes, I removed the drop springs and went to drop spindles...got them in last night and mocked up enough to put the wheels on and check the stance...perfect! Now I have about 3" of suspension travel and I want to put new bump stops on. I tried several ways to get them into the slot...to no avail... Is there a trick that I don't yet know?

Re: Lower Bump Stops
They are certainly a PITA. I have put WD40 on the control arm and the bumpstops in the toaster oven(or I've heard hot water). Then work fast while the rubber is pliable.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
I used liberal amounts of grease on the bump stop and then loads of elbow grease with a hammer and blunt screwdriver to slowly put mine in.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
I'm racking my brain trying to come up with some kind of quick easy-to-make tool
maybe it'll come to me in a dream....

Re: Lower Bump Stops
Ok, at the risk of being made fun of I got mine in without too much trouble using the following method and tools.
Tool - One of those blue plastic trim tools, the one with the rounded end. Hot water - soaked them in hot water to make them a bit more pliable. KY jelly - added a bit to the bump stop "tab" and some to the area on the control arm. Tilt the bump stop up and put the edge of the tab in about the middle of the slot, work both sides in with the trim tool and then push/slide it into place while working both sides with the tool. Didn't take me 5 minutes per side.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
If you got them installed in 5 minutes per side, nobody is gonna make fun of you, no matter how you did it.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
After having to reorder some because I ripped the tab off at the bottom(partially) I went to using a trim tool that is rounded on the the ends, mine are orange though.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
I guess I should admit to a couple of failed attempts that put me searching for a better method. So, total time I guess I was way above 5 minutes per side.

Re: Lower Bump Stops
I just did mine, I dropped them in boiling water for a few minutes. While they were in the water I set up my lower control arm in my press. I put a good amount of grease on the opening and put them in place. I pressed them down until they started to squeeze in then I used a trim tool and screwdriver.
