It stalls when I stop

I can't figure out why my truck stalls when I slow down. It doesn't happen too frequently, but I'll be doing a nice clip and as I stop, I hear the engine slow and shut down. Most times my only indicator the engine stopped is I have no oil pressure and I can't hear the engine. Plus trying to downshift, brake, and floor the engine is impossible from the higher speeds. I have this problem in all conditions; high speed, low speed, hot, cold, clutch in, in neutral. It is not the clutch, not the engine (only 3000 miles on it), possibly the ignition, but probably the carb. I'm getting a new carborator and a new ignition put in for my birthday, and I hope that will solve the problem, but I would like to know because this sucks! And has anyone had problems with the choke plate getting stuck shut? I hope it's not because I'm stupid, but frankly, I'm tired of it . I'll get some pictures of my truck up tomorrow.

When mine did the same thing several months ago the first thing I changed was the HEI module in the distributor . When the truck was warm it would die anytime you came to a stop light. It would always start back up but you had to get her going pretty quick. $16 at oriely auto fixed that problem. I would replace that IF you have an HEI distrib.

Another simple thing to check that can give you problems is the fuel filter. I had a blazer that was doing the same thing. It was an almost clogged filter that would cut the fuel off when it was at idle.

I had a similar problem with a '72 Nova. I had the original carb professionally rebuilt & it works great now.
