I visited a guy selling Chevrolet pickup parts out of a bay in a warehouse, in Oklahoma CIty. I believe his name was Steve Davis. THis was likely late 80's. I had zero $$$ to soend, just went to visit to see what he offered. I told him about my pickup, being gold and such. He told me about it being a Golden anniversary edition. He said that with the options mine had, it was not terribly common. I carried the info in my mind away from this vist, wasn't a whole lot, but! Becoming a member here I find out that the Gold color was something the Chevrolet did to lure customers to the showrooms. You could get a gold pickup in any choice of engines or options. I wonder what the percentage of 68's were gold??? |

I'm thinking the same. The wear on the brake pedal pad is too much for that mileage. It looks like mine did at similar mileage.

I converted to R134 but didn't convert the fittings. I wasn't sure I'd be happy with the conversion and left the possibility of returning to R12.

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
The seller is not firmly saying it is a 35,000 mile truck, but somewhat hinting at it. No doubt it is a nice truck, but (in my opinion) it is likely a 135,000 mile truck with some updates, and spruce up. I believe the rockers have been replaced due to the missing joint between the inner rocker and cab, and factory rockers are normally just smoothed over with, and painted....these have been filled completely. Bed replacement is another indicator, and a truck that has been stored in the dry and with only 35,000 miles makes me question the need for the replacement bed wood. Under carriage condiiton also does not match up with the rest of the truck. Maybe I am off base, but some things do not add up unless it is a spruced up higher mile truck

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
Most likely 135,000, if that's the original speedometer. It's just a very decent '68 50th Anniversary. Isn't that enough? No need to mislead or paint a prettier picture. They are all selling for more than they are actually worth

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
I have asked this question before....
Is there any added value because it is a 50th Anniversary truck?

1. Special gold/white two tone paint scheme 2.parchment seat with inserts and parchment door panels 3.gold dash pad and sun visors. If all that is true, then this truck shows signs of just being a gold 68 longbed. The reason earlier in the thread that I mentioned wanting to look at the seat is, why go to the trouble of freashening up a nice truck and throwing a cheap mexican blanket seat cover on a seat. My opinion is that the seat should tell the story on the miles driven.

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
Don't get hung up on whether it is or not, I could have just said '68 truck and my meaning would be the same. I almost posted that way but went ahead with 50th without checking back. I thought early in the thread we were saying that's what it is. Plus, the question was whether the paint was original back in the thread.
So now I checked back to look at the SPID picture and the paint is gold and interior is parchment cloth. It's a 50th anniversary. Gold was not offered in '68 and neither was parchment interior, except 50th Anniversary

Probably, in the end the fact that a 50th is two-toned probably has the same effect on value as other two-tone paint options available in 68. It is the only two-toned 68 with a white offsetting color under the trim. It was a promotional thing Chevrolet did back in the day and definitely adds a cool factor to the 68's.

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
It adds desirability for many. Just like the '72 Highlander. They were a special promotion and many go nots over them. But do they bring more than a Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super? This '68 is a Custom, not a CST, so a fairly equal comparison. I'd say the combination of the big block and other options combined with the 50th Anniv. option does make it more desirable and valuable than a more average '68 in same condition

I converted mine also but there is no need to change out the fittings . I just left the R134 adapters on the R12 fittings . They still may be running r12 my burban still was R12 when I sold it . I did top it off as I have two 30 pound tanks of it . I use R12 in my Studebaker AC .

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
Thanks Mark for clearing the mud for me. I have a friend on the board that has a true 50th bought new and stayed near home for it's entire life. It has 551 gold two tone/white seat and door panels/ gold dash and sun visors. It proves you are never too old to learn. I then, have to conclude that at the very least, they didn't paint the white under the lower trim upon respray on the truck we are looming over. That isn't a big deal though.

Nice truck.
Definitely been “Worked on” Shouldn’t the wood in the bed be Black? And what about the 396 “Crossed Flag” emblems? in all my years I’ve not ever seen another like that |

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
There's another thread here, that pretty sums up that NO emblems were on 67 or 68's.
Bed wood in 68's were body color... |

I painted a '68 gold that wasn't a 50th because I liked it so much on the '70 I had. I did black interior intentionally so it would only resemble a 50th from a distance

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
I remember that truck from another thread awhile back. Very nice rig. 68 is special and I kinda like oddities. The anniversary edition is probably alot more common than a loaded up CST, but they certainly stand out in a crowd.

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
As far as I know ( may have already mentioned this). The “Golden” package was nothing other than exterior paint colors and interior colors, although exclusive to the 68 Golden as Tim mentions.
A Golden could be any possible combo of options, or none at all. This unit here, thanks GOM, would have been , and still can be a pretty spiffy performing pickup. 1st thing would be front disc brakes. The engine has cast pistons, those would have to go and the cam is not much of a player! Mine is exactly like it, but this rig has a bunch more options (mine will in time, also!) |

Re: Someone has been hiding this one . 35,196 miles
The 396 crossed flag emblems likely came off an Impala or Chevelle of the era, and as others have said, there were not normally seen on trucks till 69. No one mentioned the rally wheels, but those were not available until 73 on square body trucks, but a common "upgrade" once they became popular, and look factory. These likely came off a square body 4x4 (6 lug).

The auction says bidding over. It says contract price is $28,050.00, does it mean it sold for that???
