Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
I am reading an old post from 2012 here
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...42#post5718242 Question 1: I have an instrument cluster with same printed circuit, and I wonder if anybody has a higher resolution image of the printed circuit diagram to share? I am having difficulty reading the small text on the one in the post, and trying to figure out how the wiring goes. Question 2: I don't understand pin 5 of the cluster connector and the temperature light. I have a light bulb and light bulb holder in the temperature light position, but do I understand correctly that light will never glow at all? Just like in the dash cluster plug diagram in the post mentioned, there is no wire in position 5. Is there a different temperature sender I could put on the engine to make it activate the light (instead of or in addition to the guage sender?) |

Re: Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
I searched google for quite a while and unable to find something more readable than this
Although it looks like a good start, because the print is small and blurry, I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I may be able to trace it out myself. |

Re: Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
Without a wire on 5, the temperature light would not be able to come on. In order for that light to come on, it looks like pin 5 would need a ground connection, likely through the temperature sensor. With a temperature gauge, I guess they just didn't wire the idiot light up, but the lamp and housing are still there.
Interesting

Re: Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
The gauge cluster does not have a light since it has a regular temperature gauge. The wire for the light was on pin 5 and has been moved to pin 6 for the gauge cluster. The sender was changed to allow for variable resistance to ground which gives the different temperature ranges on the gauge.

Re: Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
I made one. I think at some point in the future of this truck I will go ahead and connect that Temp idiot light, so I can have both Temp gauge and Temp light. The light is there and just doing nothing, so it might as well be hooked up. That could be done by adding another temp sensor, or by detecting the voltage going to the gauge and make a circuit that can activate the light at a certain temperature.

Re: Wiring diagram of instrument cluster
i know this is a super old post but i edited the original pic up there with a pinout list so we can actually read it.
"G" is for gauge. pin #2 is "BREAK WARNING LAMP" pin #8 feeds two different wires, which is why its on there twice the temp near the fuel gauge is temp light
