You didn't run into issues with the torque converter to flex plate bolt circle?
The other gotcha I've heard is that you can't use all the bolt holes in the smallblock bellhousing when you mate it to the LS.

The bolt hole near the #8 cylinder is not drilled and tapped on the block because it there is not enough room for threads there on the LS block. It makes up for it with holes drilled and tapped in the oil pan - that is why there is a specific dust cover made by GM (19259119) to fit the earlier 4L80E's to an LS block.

As for the torque converter/flexplate issue, there are aftermarket flexplates that use the 6-bolt 11.5" bolt circle

Was this the reason for the 99 and later?
