Speedo cable grommet

Where can I find one? It doesn't appear that anyone sells the speedo cable with grommet installed, and a good deal of searching has turned up nothing for the grommet itself for 73-87. Anyone have a source?

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Do you mean the retainer clip that hold it in place behind the cluster?

If it is, LMC had them.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Sorry, no I should have been more specific. I mean the rubber grommet that goes into the firewall where the speedo cable comes through it.

I thought there was a chance that was what you were referring to. Yeah those seem to be hard to find. Do you have your old one, to get size dimensions from?
There is this place that has grommets:

Re: Speedo cable grommet

There is a speedo cable with the grommet on Ebay, if your really in dire need of a grommet. It's off an 84.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Appreciate all of the pointers TKCR. I do have the original grommet, but cut it to get it off of the old cable. It has a metal ring embedded in the rubber, and 3 tangs that look like they hold it to the hole in the firewall. It is too far gone to hold in there now since I cut the metal ring.

The cable is about 5/16" diameter and the firewall hole is about 1". I can probably use a grommet from the site you provided. They have one with a bore diameter of 3/8" and a groove diameter of 1" that may work if I can get it over the fitting on the end of the cable and get it seated in the firewall. The groove is 1/16" so likely to be pretty tight.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

I hate it when a thread ends with things left hanging. So, the grommet shown in the last post actually does appear to work fairly well. It is definately a PIA to install but do-able. Had to do some surgery on one of my punches to be able to force the grommet inner hole open enough to get over the end on the speedo cable. This punch's diameter was just slightly larger than the cable end, so force the grommet (use some lube) all the way up to the fat end and then just slide it over the cable end.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Thanks for the follow up . I'm up against the same thing, I can get my old one off but no way to put it on the new cable.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Glad I found this thread. I was never able to find the right grommet for my speedo cable. I bought a whole kit of grommets one time and none of them fit. My cable currently has tape around it to cover the hole.

Can anyone advise the actual GM part number for the grommet? For a ‘77 c10 specifically. Trying to find one NOS. Thanks.

The last time I got one was at the Dealer they still make then for the GM full Size Vans.(grommet for the speedo cable throw the firewall) I think some where between 2010-2014 GM full Size Vans (grommet for the speedo cable throw the firewall). If I find the bill with the part # I will let you know.

Re: Speedo cable grommet

Anyone ever come up with a part number for this? I’ve gone through the GM parts manual but I must not be looking in the right spot
