Which Comes First?
Okay guys which do I repair first.
1. Floor Pan 2. Inside/Outside Rocker Panel 3. Cab Support 4. Cab Corner I know something has to be done first, but I don't really know which to tackle first. I'm sure there's a logical progression, but I'm not sure! Thanks! Jim Smith |

Do them in the order that you listed them and you'll be ok. Remember to leave the doors on when you tack-weld the rockers on or you'll never get them straight. After you tack weld them and you're sure that they line up nicely then you can remove the doors and fill in the welds. With the cab corners, just use as much of the patch panel as needed to fix the bad area.

Cab supports first and floorplan next unless the floorpan is bad around the cab supports.....then they kinda go together.
Inside rocker panel Outside rocker panel Cab Corner But you must realize that these parts all fit together.....so it's not like you can do one of them w/o the others. Once you have the cab supports/floor panels in solid (being sure to line-up the bodylines with the bed) you can work on the rest. Leave the door on and be sure that it is adjusted (gaps) and that the hinge pins and bushings are tight before you start on the rockers. You need the door to align the outer rocker, you also need it to be sure that the rear jamb has not rolled away from the door opening. You need to have all of these things in place before you weld anything in the rocker/cab corner area. The cab corner fits over the rocker, so it must be done last. You will need to move the bed back (or take it off) to finish the cab corners. Off is better because you will need it off to prime/paint anyway. |
