I now have my blue plaid SMS seat cover for my Highlander. Will install it soon before hot weather disappears. That blue plaid with the white trim sure is pretty. Would hate to see it get all dirty/greasy when I use my truck as a truck.

Do any of you have a temporary seat cover you throw in there to protect your nice upholstery? I have seat belts so ability to accommodate those would be nice. Any suggestions?

The Mexican blanket style bench seat covers are available in the $40 range, amazon, ebay, etc. What was on my truck before I tore it down. Hope you plan to enjoy the nice upholstery on your seat a bit. Have never understood the reason people spring for a nice/upgraded interior and cover it up with cheap seat covers for someone else to have and enjoy in the future.

My thoughts exactly. I restore seats, and have had a few people do just that, cover the new beautiful upholstery up with some sort of blanket. I never understood that.

The cover is intended for occasional temporary use only. Most of the time I will be sitting on that beautiful plaid upholstery.

Don't know what a Mexican blanket is. Will look into that.

I just did the upholstery in my truck. Black vinyl. We'll use a Mexican blanket when it's exposed to the sun. Not fond of fried ham(s). The California sun is brutal.

I leave an old large towel behind/under the seat and use that in case I happen to be jumping in when I'm all greasy or whatever. Works just fine. Recommend use one big enough so that you can hang it over the back and still cover the bottom, or just use two or something like that.

High desert UV rays! That’s why my rip free, minimal wear, original upholstery CST/Cheyenne seat is covered. The sun eats almost everything at 6,000+ feet.

You got that right. My house was repainted a couple of years ago and I've got the painters over there now doing it again. It's all blistered and peeling.

Red paint fades fast. This Valvoline sign is in my garage by the door and the red still faded.

Off topic, does anyone make a pull-off cover for a dash pad?

I see where LMC had a cover that you can attach. I guess it goes over the old one? It costs more than just buying a new complete pad.

I was looking at replacing my dash pad, but once the wife found out how invasive that surgery was, she just wants a piece of carpet on it to cover the ugly.

I have a really nice piece of walnut that I could make a "pad" with, but that doesn't get the old one off in preparation for installation.

Surgery can be a pickle. Even the cutting nuts if not careful, they nearly taught me a valuable lesson, always flush to the surface off & on. Seems a dash pad's pad wouldn't be that difficult, wrap the perimeter with a band similar panty waists, comes off easy, secure when she needs it.

My truck was parked next to a morning window etc, but I threw white towels on it. Paid off. I wonder if SMS rebuilds dash pads? I was surprised to see they have Deluxe material.

Looking forward to seeing that walnut dash.

And I'd love to do it! The wood working part, anyway... not the surgery! I was looking at an upgrade for the whole instrument cluster, with all new gauges, speedo and tach. Holy guacamole, that stuff has gone up in price!

The temp gauge is inoperative, I want an 80 PSI oil pressure gauge (it pegs cold, with what I believe is a 60 psi gauge- it's the original) and I'd like to put the trans temp gauge in the blanked hole. If I'm going to do those three things, I might as well go all in. Speedos are a joke- none of them read below 120 MPH. I was telling my wife I could get a speedo that goes to 180.

I've actually had the truck to 75 MPH, but I was concerned that shell could get damaged.
