Oil leaks
Replaced the intake manifold with an Edelbrock. 1972 C-10 with stock 350. Is this a gasket issue, a thread sealer issue or both?
Oil doesn’t appear on short drives, but freeway speeds for 30-40 minutes and there it is. |

Re: Oil leaks
You need thread sealer on those bolts...and the right torque.

Re: Oil leaks
^ Yup.
That bolt is in a place where the head casting allows for oil return; even if it isn't at the lower edge of the head, oil still goes there, as it splashes all over. At high enough engine speeds, the valve cover may be close to full. It's why the Z-28s (for example) have a 9 quart pan.

Re: Oil leaks
Some of the bolts go into blind holes, some into the water jacket, some into the oil galley. A quality thread sealer will help out.

Re: Oil leaks
From what I was informed of it also has to do with how the engine firing order is and and how well the pistons are sealing also.
I dunno, mine did that also before I sold it, ran fine for years. |

Re: Oil leaks
Yes, blow-by can be an issue if an oil "leak" shows up at high engine speeds.
