Shocks and mounts for lowered C10
On a 72 C10 with factory rear leaf springs. I now have 2' lower coils in front and 2" shackles in the rear. Have orig length shocks, in the front I installed new HD mounts rear is stock. The lowering Did not make to much difference from stock though. Now I'm going to install 4" lower rear leaf's and CCP 2" lower spindles in front along with what I've already done. Question is will I need to install relocated front and rear shock brackets? I've seen front relocation brackets sold none for the rear. Are the fronts really needed, I can figure out the rears I guess. I know I'll need new shocks , any recommendations?

The 4" lower leafs + shackles will likely require a change. My suggestion would be to get the parts installed & measure the distance between the upper/lower shock mount holes & see what impact there possibly is on the angles. Compare the mount dimensions to the shocks dimensions (fully extended, fully compressed, & the middle). The numbers will tell if where you'd wind up within the shocks travel range & if changes are warranted. The other thing is the shocks installed working angle. Relocation brackets can help with the shock angle. Sometimes when dropped, the angles move beyond spec & that impacts their ability to dampen the movements effectively. The same shock will be different if it's @ a 45° angle vs @ 30°. The industry standard spec I follow = nothing beyond 35° angle.

Re: Shocks and mounts for lowered C10
My 72 is dropped on 2.5 inch spindles and 2" springs, on the standard front shock mount. Using CPP 2" drop shocks.
Front rebound is... OK. I don't have any complaints. I know these aren't the best rated shocks on the market. I haven't had any immediate need to switch to the front shock relocation brackets yet, and they aren't expensive or hard to install. |
