Just renewed my AAA premier membership $169.00 But 200 miles of free towing makes it worth it if you only use it once .

Re: Need On Road Help Near Ina, IL!

Thanks, We are running again. It was my 12 dodge but did have most the tools to fix, got it back together, right rear wheel studs sheared off and lost the wheel. Thankfully Napa delivered and had all the parts, bit of creative morning motel mechanics. To get studs in.

Glad to hear you're up and running and safe!
That's a scary kind of failure. I've had it happen to me twice. Fortunately both times I got the car herded to the side of the road before the last stud failed. Once I was half way between Spokane and Moses Lake about 9:00 pm. Fortunately I had enough tools with me to pull some studs out of the other wheels to get back on the road

Don't forget to send the NAPA store a case of beer.

I'm glad you got out of that one. Been in the same shape with only one stud left, roadside replace with what tools I had.

Re: Need On Road Help Near Ina, IL!

had that happen to me in Alabama awhile back. had a dodge cummins donor truck on a gooseneck, behind my crewcab. started wobbling real weird, so I pulled off the road and slowed down carefully. got out, nothing looked wrong. put it in gear eased forward while my friend watched, and the right rear wheel popped off the axle hub! I pounded some wheel studs out of a 2" alum spacer, swapped them in and had the wheel back on in an hour, and we drove home at 45mph!

Re: Need On Road Help Near Ina, IL!

Wheel studs. I had acquired a really nice '54 Chevy 2 door post as payment for some work for a farmer (in Idaho). I was towing it behind my '66 Le Mans on a tow bar, and felt it wiggle behind me. I stepped on the gas and it straightened out. I ran out of gas and was thumbing a ride into Wells, NV with a can and got a ride. The guy told me I had a flat tire on the car I was towing. Great. Got into town, got a gallon of gas, thumbed a ride back out. No, not a flat tire, the left rear wheel was gone, along with the fender skirt. Unhook towed vehicle, go into town, get lug nuts and studs. The only thing I had to get the old studs out was an 8 ounce ball peen hammer. There I am, tink tink tink, when a road worker pulls up and lets me use his 8 pound maul. Studs out! I pushed the new ones in as far as I could and then used the nuts to draw them tight, stopping every few miles to re-torque them. Dragged that '54 up through Montgomery pass. I used the spare out of the Le Mans. If I had gotten a flat, I guess I would have taken the spare off the '54 and left it at the side of the road. I had barely enough money to get home to California, as it was, no money for more tires. Good times!

Speaking of middle of nowhere "Wells Nevada". My mom spent half her childhood there. It was bustling then as the Great Northern was still running steam trains. Once they switched to diesels and shut down their repair facility the town pretty much died.

Re: Need On Road Help Near Ina, IL!

Glad you got it going. After over 20 years as a mechanic and tire specialist, I was the guy at the dealership who took on all the tough tire jobs. I can say two things never run spacers, they are a disaster waiting to happen and always match the correct lugnits to the wheels. A lot of people switch wheels and put the old lugnuts back on, dont do that. Most aftermarket wheels require special lugnuts for that specific wheel.
