telephone truck bed
So i was just minding my own business a couple of weeks ago checking out the ads on fb marketplace and i came across something i always wanted. it is a telephone service bed for a 50 chevy truck. i always thought they were cool but not very available. this one was about 2 hours away in one of those towns that you cant get there from here. i am thinking about putting it on my purple 40 truck, my only concern is what the thing weighs. i havent come up with a good way to have it weighed without making a bunch of trips back and forth to town. but what is the worst that can happen? i may have to increase the springs in the back. it is 6ft long, 54 in wide and 35 in tall from the frame to the top

Re: telephone truck bed
i did buy it. it does have a data plate on it but it shows the truck weight, total load weight and total gross weight. nothing about what the box weighs empty.

Re: telephone truck bed
Good, Glad you got it, Take it to the nearest scrapper or town refuse disposal scale. Around here it's free to go on the scales

Re: telephone truck bed
Moving companies generally have public scales as well.

Re: telephone truck bed
the problem i have with weighing it at this point is that it is mounted on the frame with the rear axle under it. we have 2 scales that are local, 1 is the scrap yard down the street and they started shutting off their scale in the off hours and the other is the county refuse center they charge $5 for scaling if youre not dumping and their hours are not real useful to me. i dont really want to disassemble this thing until i am ready to redo it. it is easy to move as it is right now.
