O2 Sensor?

I'm sure you guys remember my many complaints about my truck running very poorly occassionally after exceeding 35 MPH. This week, I disconnected the O2 sensor and have been driving it like that since. It has only began to stumle once or twice since I did that. After about 10 mins and after I start climbing the hills here up in Silver City, NM , the SES light came on like it should. I have already replaced the Coolant Temperature Switch, which in turn made this thing not ever want to start in the morning at all (the other problem). It tends to be very cold blooded. I thought EFI systems didnt need to be warmed up, but mine does or it'll die. Should I go ahead and throw in an O2 sensor? They're kind of expensive, but I do want it to run right I suppose. Is it impossible to remove without the special socket that the Big 3 suggest buying? Thanks anyone.

Nathan

The more sensors you have hooked up / properly functioning, the better your EFI setup will run

The O2 sensor has nothing to do with cold running. The O2 sensor only functions once the engine reaches operating temp. If you don't have all these sensors hooked up and working right, you are wasting a bunch of gas. It will never run right either. You can't just unhook this stuff. Remember, it's electronic. The sensors tell the computer what the engine needs to run properly. If it's unhooked, the computer don't see any info.

No O2 and your running the risk of plugging up the cat.

Your problem is more then likely a sticking EGR valve. EGR is off till about 1500 rpm. It's also off when cold enough to be running in open loop. If yours is like 88 thne you have a solonoid that controls the EGR up on the intake (trace the line from the EGR). Mine was sticking. few drops of air tool oil into the ports and so far it seems to work fine and has been for a year now.
