Re: 1964 C10 Survivor

I am blatantly stealing your intermittent wiper function and claiming it as my own.

Woody is still some way from hitting the road again but this is a really good upgrade that means I can, like other, use my truck as a truck in all weathers.

Nice.

As for the paint, in the pictures I cant see it until I look for it so wouldn't worry.

Steal all you want, friend! It makes driving in the Pacific Northwest drizzle a much better experience.

In other news I installed some polyurethane body mounts, and that was a mistake. I’m going to buy the rubber kit. These make so much noise and transfer so much vibration to the cab that I thought I broke my truck.

I also installed a headlights-on buzzer so I don’t drain my battery due to forgetfulness.

Re: 1964 C10 Survivor

That seals it - I'm going to order rubber for my cab mounts. I know I'm not supper chuffed about the poly on my '77.

Headlights buzzer can be just a cheap buzzer, with + hooked to lights, and - hooked to ignition positive. When key is on, buzzer sees + on both sides, and no sound. Key is off but lights are on, buzzer grounds through the "off" ignition somewhere and makes noise. I put one in my '77 and saves my bacon all the time.

Re: 1964 C10 Survivor

After my thread earlier asking about rubber or poly body mounts glad to hear that I have made the right decision!

Rubber mounts are En Route, well hopefully, but that is a story for another day....

Yes, there is a thread in here about that. Rubber is more cushionny.

I'm pretty sure you aren't going to want to paint this one either. I think that gmc color is somewhat rare.

Correct, this one isn’t gonna get paint either. Looks like it’s had one repaint in the Palomino Tan a long time ago…hoping it buffs out pretty well…

8-lugger. Staying HD or going to do a 5-lug swap?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

I just started a thread for this truck so this one doesn’t get too convoluted.
https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...72#post8935372

But to answer your question, plan is to convert to half-ton spec, and likely short wheelbase too.

I was going to tell you if you were thinking of keeping it a 3/4 ton, I have the perfect donor for you.
My 66. Disc brakes, power steering, 14-bolt rear.

While I'm working on the GMC, I'm just racking up miles on this truck. It's been so good all summer.

Oh No! Park it. Store it away and only bring it out for car shows and special occasions for others to see and say 'ooohh ahhh'. That's the purpose of a classic vehicle. Like Jay, you need 1000's of sq ft of ooohh ahhh vehicles.

New chapter to the story...this truck is going to a new home about 4 hours north. It's been a great truck but I can't keep it inside while I have other projects and I don't want to watch it deteriorate. I hope the new owner enjoys it!

Re: 1964 C10 Survivor

This has been a good read, as I work on my '64 C10 rescue down south in Eugene. I didn't see any note of late transmission changes, were you still happy with the overdrive NP833 trans? That's what's in my truck now, connected to a little 305 small block V8.

I decided to go with the old 555 timer delay solution, even though it requires an extra knob. I bought this little delay board:
https://www.amazon.com/12VDC-Windshi...48975422&psc=1

I de-soldered the potentiometer and bought these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The original switch works just like it did before, and the new switch works independently to turn on the wipers and sets a delay between 3sec and 30 seconds. Totally worth the $35 or whatever.
Ahh! This could be the answer for me! Add intermittent wipers (as noted, a big plus around these parts), plus I should be able to mount the remote pot in the soon-to-be-unused choke cable hole (after the conversion to electric choke is complete). Good stuff!

I think you'll love that transmission. It worked really well with my setup, and I'd totally do it again...in fact, I have a spare transmission, just need the shifter and bracket!

Cool. I've still not driven my truck yet, but getting close. Need to get it to DMV (CA title) and to a muffler shop.

Do all these trucks switch the ground at the wiper switch? My truck has single speed wipers with no washers, and only has a single wire to the switch, so it must be switching ground, not hot.
