Windshield trim?

I'm cleaning house and trying to decide which trim is better, shallow trim or deep trim? I need to keep a couple of extra sets (just in case).

Or does it even matter as long as you have the correct gasket?

Re: Windshield trim?

mainly just need the correct gasket. Thats the important thing to get the trim to seat correctly in the seal

I've always found that the stock deep trim is easier to keep in place when installing the windshields. (I install all of my own)

Re: Windshield trim?

They say it's best to use the early gasket and the later (deeper) trim. That way you don't have to worry about getting the trim all the way in or worry about it popping out

On the serious side, factory is best and later is preferred.

Re: Windshield trim?

Ok a little confused now Tim ... I read on the board that the later trim 71-72 was the 3/8 and the earlier 67-70 was the 5/8.

Re: Windshield trim?

I think Tim hasn't had enough coffee yet this morning .

The 67-70 deep 5/8 trim used with the Precision WCR - 685 gasket works better .

The 71-72 shallow 3/8 trim uses the Precision WCR - 685 - A , the trim is prone to popping out of the groove when installing .

You Can't mix the year trim and gaskets .

Which ever year trim and gasket is used the trick to avoiding issues when installing is to assemble the gasket and trim and tape it in place and allow it to relax in postion by storing it in a warm place for a week before attempting to install the glass into your truck , The gaskets will seat better with the trim and the windshield opening if it's allowed to stretch .

Re: Windshield trim?

Maybe I'm dyslexic . Yep, got that backwards, haven't delved into trim lately. Sorry. Late = shallow/early = late

I just know I have the deeper trim for my trucks

Thanks for the tip, I'll be replacing mine due to leaking in a week or so. My fault due to a lousy install. Do you recommend any sealant? Per the Steel Rubber website they do.

I just install using windex or mild soap water in a spray bottle , NO silicone / NO urethane based products . I've seen where the factory install manual says to use a butyl strip approx 6" from each corner , Trying to use anytype of sealer when installing will just cause a huge mess . Once installed if you find you have a leak I just use a black butyl flow grade sealer , The sealer and dispensing gun are expensive but they work and will last a very long time .

Re: Windshield trim?

The factory did use butyl sealer in the bottom corners and a white sealer in the top corners. I don't know how they did it w/o making a mess
