Under hood heat Insulation

Any body do any heat insulation on the underside of your hood? I have seen one in a catalog that is around $1000 which seems really expensive but it is set up specifically for our trucks. I have seen people use a bed liner type spray on material. Any suggestions?

Bed liner spray would be good for rust, but not much good for insulation. Which way do you want the heat not to flow?

I am trying to keep engine heat from effecting the exterior paint on the hood. What I saw might have just looked like bed liner.

I did it. First with strips of Kilmat then with Dynamat under hood liner. It works no doubt about it. I suppose it would be fine with the underhood liner alone if you were only worried about heat, but the Kilmat strips really made that hood feel solid. When I open my hood after a summer drive, even after its been shut off for several minutes, a gyser of heat rolls up out of there. Its quieter. Driving down the road too. Here's a pic I took halfway thru. It takes two boxes of the underhood liner for full coverage.

I saw the dynamat stuff on there website. I am not sure if I like the shiny finish. Do you remember where you purchased it from? I saw some black stuff made by Boommat that is meant for under the hood that classic industries sells. In my search I also came across lizard skin spray on insulation.

I got all the stuff for that job including a little roller for the Kilmat on Amazon. I might recall the Dynamat hood liner being available in black too...i think. In any case you have a bit more choices since your mainly concerned with blocking heat, as oppose to a combination of heat AND noise but Dynamat products are indeed high quality. One drawback though is that it is some sticky stuff so there are no second chances on sticking it in place

Yah I have used Dynamat under my carpet and it works vary well.

The LMC on is the on I saw before. I don’t know why I thought it was so expensive. The quiet ride one is what I am looking for I think. I am always a little hesitant when it comes to LMC. I always feel like they are selling a lesser product.

Did this add quite a bit of weight to the hood in terms of the springs keeping it lifted when opening the hood?

Full open is no problem but trying to keep it at mid-level is a balancing act.

Does anyone know if LMC is selling the quiet ride product. It seams very similar but the prices are different. I called LMC to ask but the lady I talked to sounded like she could not access that information.
