New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
Just about to pull the trigger on a set of drums from Rock Auto and am worried about getting the right size.
The ones I have chosen say 11x2", the other options don't say a size. I have the base model truck with a 5 bolt wheel and a 12 bolt rear end. I've just removed a rear tire and measured across the front of the drum and I get about 11.75 inches. The drum depth is almost 4 inches. Is this the right size to order? Or is the stock size the drums with no measurements in the listing?

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
So would 11x2" inch be the right size for my setup?

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
Is it possible for you to take a brake drum to a local store and tell them what you have, along with the drum? Maybe take both drums and the shoes along so that they can figure out what you have?

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
If you take a drum off measure across the shoes and the width of the shoe or you can measure inside the drum the diameter and the depth where the shoe has been riding. I hope this helps.

NAPA shows one drum for a 1971 Chevy C10 so I wonder if there's an issue.

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
The 71 and 72 C/10's with the 12-bolt axle have 11" drums with 2" shoes...5x5 lug pattern.

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
I only think they used 11x2 on both C10 5 lug and K10 6 lug . I don't remember other sizes used that year.

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
Yes, as long as the factory 12-bolt axle is still there, you should be good to go with 11" drums with five lug holes. The brake shoes are 2" wide.

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
Personally I would measure them. I have swapped numerous rear brake set ups over the years to improve braking. Your truck is 50 years old and things may have been swapped somewhere along the line.

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
might want to order new wheel cylinders also...or rebuild kit and hone yours. IMHO they are fairly cheap so just get new ones. I also got my 72, 5 lug rear brakes from RA
If the center soft line is old, replace it also |

Re: New Rear Drums - Help with what size to order
Oh yeah for sure, I'm doing the full brakes, wheel cylinders and center brake line. Everything in the front too, calipers, disks etc. 50 years, time for some new stuff
