Stereo options
Does anybody have a suggestion for a decent stereo setup without cutting my dash. I was planning on going with custom autosound or retro sound, but I have seen a ton of bad reviews for both. I hate the thought of cutting my dash, but I want decent sound and Bluetooth.

Re: Stereo options
Some people have taken the old Delco radios and added bluetooth to it.

Re: Stereo options
I installed the custom autosound and it works well. I have a clip out when I turn the stereo off but I think that might be an amp issue (10" sub and 6x9). I didn't get the bluetooth version as I thought it was a lot extra for it...kind regret it now as it would have been nice to stream the music vs having a wired connection sitting on the bench seat sliding around...I may get a phone holder that you can insert into a cupholder.
I like the look and style and it performs as expected

Re: Stereo options
I’ve had the CustomAuto sound for about 6-7 years now. Love it.

Re: Stereo options
I second the custom autosound.. specifically for OG fit, finish & style. i believe?? there was someone on the board that used to recondition your factory radios & update them for BT...

Re: Stereo options
I would check out Short hauls amp upgrade that allows him to do bluetooth and he hid it all under the front seat. (I really like that idea).

Re: Stereo options
I have an old school Sears cassette player that has a CD in jack and so I just use a small Bluetooth adapter to use my iphone with it. I had recently seen on Crutchfield they have a small body unit with a swivel touch screen. It looks like the main unit could be mounted back a little and screen would just stick out of the rectangle hole. A person could even add a back up camera to this unit.

Re: Stereo options
If I had a factory radio I would probably have it converted, but unfortunately a previous owner swapped it out for an aftermarket tape deck that sounds terrible. If some people are having good luck with custom autosound maybe I should put that back on the table.

Re: Stereo options
It's nice to see some good reviews of the Custom Autosound radios. I was a little nervous about the bad reviews I read online.

Re: Stereo options
I've had 3 retro sound radios in various older vehicles. They are a very nice option... especially if you're looking for things like satellite radio. I did have a problem with the last one I bought. Pray you never have to call their tech support.

Re: Stereo options
Well it is a single din unit for the main body and that is why I think it can be set back a ways without cutting original two knob plate. It looks to be about a inch from main body and screen pedestal. I was going to try it myself but the unit is all sold out right now. I really like the idea of a hands free calling and a double din screen. The screen can come off for security purposes.

Re: Stereo options
I’m thinking about having the cassette drive removed from my circ 1986 Kenwood in my 84, and have a Bluetooth board installed in it’s place. While in there, plan to have the Kenwood 5 pin plug swapped to RCA jacks to run a non Kenwood amp

Thanks Factory Guy for the mention. RedChevy87, I too was skeptical about the retrosound stuff. I wanted bluetooth capability but with some actual power to run decent speakers and keep my original working AMFM. Click the link to my Sweet Pea build for the full write up on what i did (starts at the bottom of page 1 I believe) But I've been running it a few years now and have zero complaints. The amp is hidden under the seat and ive got 6x9s and 3.5s in the dash. Original AM/FM still dials in the local country station just fine too!
