Frame VIN decode, possibly van?
A mechanic said that he thought that the frame on my 71 GMC was from a 77 4x4 van.
Here are the numbers on the passenger side of the frame below the cab. 379338 6 7 15 76 I've read through a dozen threads on this site and others and can't figure out anything from this format or numbers at all. |

Re: Frame VIN decode, possibly van?
It won't be from a van anything. GM vans where unitbody until 1996 with the introduction of the Express/Savanna.
4x4 vans where conversions, no telling what was grafted under them. |

Re: Frame VIN decode, possibly van?
1. Axle is right. No separate frames under a van in 77.
2. That's not a VIN. Looks more like a part number and supplier date code information. The abbreviated VIN stamp will be on the top side of the top horizontal flange of the frame, not the side. If you find it the decode will be: C7F123456, where C = Chevy, T = GMC 7 = model year F = assembly plant (F = Flint, J = Janesville, Z=Fremont, etc 123456 = sequential portion of VIN K

Re: Frame VIN decode, possibly van?
Take pictures of the full frame, usually we can figure it out.
On a plus size, if you can get measurements from the top of the frame rails specially in the rear kick up and the bumper mount areas.
