Accessing mount screws on a Tilt Column?
Accessing and Fastener Head type.
I need to tighten the three mount screws/bolts in my tilt column. I understand that “the Best” thing to do would be to take it out and have it rebuilt, BUT, with the economy the way it is, it ain’t happening any time soon. Now, I know I have to take the wheel off to access the THREE mount screws. My question is: What Typ of head do these screws have? Phillips? Flat Tip? Allen Head? Star? Also how deep are these screws down in the column? I’m guessing 3-4 inches Does what I want to do require a special tool? Thanks in advance And Merry Christmas to All, I hope Santa brings you the parts/tools you’ve been waiting for |

Re: Accessing mount screws on a Tilt Column?
1/4" drive set is all you need. I can't remember if they are 6 or 12 point. Be sure you have both. This looseness is a common complaint. I see no reason to have the column rebuilt for such a job. A little blue loctite will keep them in place. Remember they lasted for 40 years so even without it I believe you will be OK.
Cheers. |
