Christmas Project

I have a little Christmas project going on with my Blazer. I'll share all the details, but first...

...a little Christmas mystery. Want to guess what's in the boxes?

There would be nothing in the boxes now. You don't think he could wait this long to open them up and take the stuff out of them do you?????

OK, you got me.

I got a quote from the only local muffler shop I consider reputable to replace the entire exhaust from the manifolds back on my Blazer - $1200 for aluminized steel. I asked how much more it would be for stainless, and he told me three to four times as much. So I bought some parts and I'm currently in the process of fitting and welding. It's 2 1/2" stainless all the way back, with an H pipe and Magnaflow 6" x 14" round mufflers. I'll post up pics once I get it done.

Yes, there are some Chinese parts there, but I buy American wherever I can.

Re: Christmas Project

Sounds like your muffler shop doesn't like to work with stainless. $3,600-$4,800!!?????!! Never heard such a thing. This way you can run it just how you want. And, you can afford a nice dinner out on the town with your wife! Merry Christmas!

Re: Christmas Project

I finished it tonight. I'll have some pics tomorrow. With the bottle of tri-mix gas, it came in right at $700. It sounds good. It's a lot quieter than the old turbo mufflers at idle, but it makes a pleasant noise when I hit the accelerator.

And Merry Christmas to all of you.

Re: Christmas Project

Update: Here are a couple of pics. I really like the way it turned out. It has a nice rumble at idle, isn't at all obnoxious at cruise, and barks nicely when I open up the throttle. It also woke the engine up. I had been a little disappointed in my 330 hp, but it seems some of the horses were getting caught up at the gate. They're free to run now.

Re: Christmas Project

Always nice to have the new pipes. Even nicer when it's your custom work

Re: Christmas Project

Well you don't ever have to worry about the new stuff looking like the old stuff.

That's why I wanted stainless. It's all 304 stainless and I passivated all the welds, so I'm not expecting to ever see any rust.
