Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
Aforementioned front cover. What it is, and what it's supposed to be.
What's left of the front bearing........everything else is in the bottom of the case on the magnet. New toy. Always wanted one, but with all the welding and fab I do in the garage I was a bit apprehensive about getting one filled with flammable liquid. Read up where some were having good luck with Simple Green and Purple Power, so decided to fill it with Purple Power. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Cleaned up the yoke pretty good.

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
We were also able to replace the worn hinges on the hood. One person can close it now, which is a relief. We also got a new turn signal switch, and found out that the steering column is missing the c clip to hold the retainer plate on. Will have to do some junkyard diving for that I am sure.

Good progress! Sorry to hear about the drum set being a casualty tho. However, I do think it's a great idea that he's participating in the cost of the work. And there's no question that the time and the pictures together will be priceless in the long run.

We got the last parts in unexpectedly saturday, and put the transmission back together. Sunday we put it back in the truck, and lo and behold it works! Shifts so smooth, and goes into third effortlessly! We need to get the column shift adjusted, but it will go into all the gears! Woohoo!!

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
So we're in the process of getting the truck ready for a tag. We replaced all the bulbs and the windshield wiper blades today. Made another order to LMC today to get the hazard switch (it's stuck in the 'on' position). $90.......and still need tires. Sucks the $$$ down fast!

Love it! My son is 12 now and getting into trucks a little more as well. I love getting to spend time with him in the garage! Enjoy it!

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
Excellent! This is a great build thread. I'm sure your son will look back fondly on this later in life. Great job so far.
And I would have had a hard time selling the drum set for car parts...I don't play the drums, but I play several other instruments and I know the struggle between car parts and more instruments is real! Kudos to your boy for being so interested in this!

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
MAN...........I didn't realize how long it's been since we posted. it's been a tough year for everyone.
We've done so much to the truck it's hard to remember everything......Biggest thing is, it's got a name..........Dirty Dan. So apropo! So we've sucessfully rebuilt the saginaw. It's actually been performing very well. Since then, we've installed LED halos: Got new tires, and lowered the truck 2-1/2" in the front, 4" in the rear: Got a 305 from a '87 Monte Carlo: Had the machine work done on it: Ordered some lumpy stuff: Acquired a Saginaw 4 speed: In that time frame, I acquired a new toy: And we went to our first show, Battle in Bama at the battleship Alabama park: We've been busy! Thanks for looking!

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
Since the show, the '67 has been parked due to transmission biting the dust. It's an old muncie light duty trans that is obsolete and near impossible to find parts for. So we decided to put the 4 speed in Dirty Dan and put the saginaw in mine. His swap went good, and he's digging the 4 on the floor. As for my truck, I just got the linkage made for the swap, and i'm just waiting on the shortened driveshaft to be done. Once I get that I hope to have mine on the road again........I've had it for 2 months now and I've barely driven it. It's a 250, 3 on the tree, which for now is the way I like it. Labor of love these trucks are...........

Re: 1980 C10 Short Fleet Build
Labor of love indeed! Sweet 67! Glad Dirty Dan is alive and well and being driven.
And I love the look of those Futura tires. I have them on my '86. I think the tread pattern is very retro and period correct looking in my opinion.

He wanted the Futura tires because our neighbor had some on one of his vehicles and really liked the look. He wanted raised white letter tires for sure. I like the rallys, but he's already planning some different rims/tires, so once Jake (my '67) gets 5 lugs, those rims/tires just might end up on my truck!
