Re: Under dash Valence, Steel build along
So the dash was welded on crooked and it's twisted some.
The drivers side is on the right, the panel I made is flush with the end of the dash and is 5/8" back from the door jam. the passenger side is flush with the end of the dash and about 3/16" back from the door jam. Also I made the pattern from the driver side and I hade to split, hammer and dolly about 1-1/2" of the panel to get it to come over to the door jam. the Passenger side fit perfectly . HOW did that happen, don't know. ![]() ![]() Top lip, I knew I was going to grind off most of it a bend the lip over a good bit so it would fit better, this changed the radius and I had to bend it by hand, a little here and there to make it fit. Also had to cut it back a lot, some places (at the door jam) where the red line is in the picture. ![]() They fit good now. but not so easy. You would be cussing me most of the time. The long piece, you have someone bend it for you to my pattern. I don't have a break to make them. I had two C clamps holding it to the dash, you would have to find the exact spot to clamp it. |

I could make 1 pair for someone and see how it turns out for them.

Re: Under dash Valence, Steel build along
All these trucks vary from truck to truck. The fit and finish is nothing compared with today's vehicles. Your dash valence came out great

Re: Under dash Valence, Steel build along
I scribed a centerline on it and started sawing it in half.
![]() Outside first then the inside ![]() I stuck some magnets to it and held it to the edge sander to knock off the high spots. ![]() Lot's of kerf cuts and started welding ![]() This took a long time. ![]() I welded it up and started grinding the welds. More tomorrow This carbide scribe (on the right) has a small magnet on the end and gets everything stuck to it magnetized, so I ordered a Demagnetizer. ![]() You hold the object in between your fingers (to keep it off the top) and drag your finger tips from one side to the other. When I did tool and die work we used magnetic chucks to hold down parts as we ground them on a surface grinder and Demaged them after. ![]() Done, I even tried to demag the small magnet but it did not work. ![]() |

Re: Under dash Valence, Steel build along
I'm back at it for the Steering column cover.
I tacked on a narrow strip then added this piece over it so I should have enough thickness there for a good radius. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Under dash Valence, Steel build along
I finished the project today.
Worked on the Glove box door, I had to add some metal on one side and a small area on the dash to get the gap lines better. ![]() ![]() I have a gap on the dash (under the magnet )I need to fill and grind about 3/16" off the top of the glovebox door. ![]() All done ![]() 4 all threads welded to the glove box door with adjustments (2 nuts and washers for each bolt). ![]() I may or may not make a console between the seats and butt up to the bottom of the valance |
