1972 C1500 GMC Long bed Chassis

I have a 72 GMC 2wd long bed chassis for sale. It has front disc brakes and leaf spring rear. The frame is very rust free and was a Kansas truck and still has the trans cross member. The front bumper is gone already. The LH lower control arm u bolts are missing as is the coil spring. I'm not sure what gears are in the rear end yet. $350 will buy it so I don't have to cut it down to a SWB wheel base.

These frames are the same as a coil spring frame as far as I can tell aside from the holes for the leaf spring perches.

Member "JPsChevy" from Ogden, IA was looking for one of these at one time. I sent him a PM about yours but he hasn't been on the board for a while so I don't know.....

Just trying to help prevent troubles or confusion on a sale. The frames are different on the rear, the shape is different on a coil truck. With that said all of the body from a coil truck will bolt up, just saying you can’t bolt trailing arms on these and they line up

Yes, the frames are different on coil spring trucks. This frame has those bump outs of a coil spring truck. If you look it also has the trailing arm mounting center cross member. This is an original 72 GMC half ton frame. I've had a couple over the years but never cared to look at them because I was always a K guy. Apparently the GMC half tons used a coil frame and they just bolted on leaf springs. For what ever reason, all GMC trucks had leaf springs. I will get more pics later.

Re: 1972 C1500 GMC Long bed Chassis

I was originally going to 4x4 swap this frame but I just couldn't do it with the coil spring rear frame shape.

IMO This frame would look out of place if you were doing a period correct 4x4 build. Sure, you can swap over the front spring hangers and rad support mounts, but the back of this frame straight up is meant to be coil spring or leaf spring half ton suspension.

Yes, it could be used for a 4x4 build, just not my cup of tea.

Promise I’m not trying to be argumentative here just helpful. But after this I won’t say anything else. The coil spring bumps as you say are wider on a coil chassis and there is a crossmember that runs side to side where the coil springs mount. Also a stiffener plate for the upper coil mount. Personally the frame you have to me is more valuable that a coil because it’s the right frame to convert to 4wd because the rear rails are the same. Chevy was standard with coil and optional leaf, gmc just the opposite. For anyone that wants to do a 4wd, you put the front leaf mounts in and have a 4wd, change the rear leaf mounts also and it’s no different dimensionally from any other 67-72 4wd

Oh well. It always sucks. I just ran across the same thing, for the same kind of money on marketplace this morning and saved it.

Re: 1972 C1500 GMC Long bed Chassis

Did you save any of the leaf spring mounts by chance? And the upper shock mounts that go to the frame? I’m looking for both.
