Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
Thanks!
No problem and glad to be able to pass on anything someone else might use. This is a hobby for me and it is always great to know that something you are doing or sharing is helping someone else.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
You've already got a nice looking truck there, looking forward to seeing how far you will take it.
I have to say I thought I had seen them all by now, but I have never ever seen rims like that. They look good cleaned up.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
Thanks! Not sure how far I will go with it. The plan was to just make the needed repairs, drive it a little and let it go to the next owner.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
A few weeks ago I started on tearing down the seat and seeing what was needed to get it back looking good and matching up with the Saddle items in the truck. Tore it down and tossed the old seat cover in the trash. Removed the foam top and bottom which were in great shape and cleaned them with the shop vac and used a high-pressure air nozzle to get it clean. Made a few foam repairs on the driver's edge and trimmed it up with a turkey electric knife to match the contour. Stripped the frame down the best I could with a brass wire wheel on an angle grinder. Primmed and painted the frame with some satin black.
Had a few spots on the driver's side where someone made a repair to the springs where one was broken. I removed the broken spring and pulled one from a scrap seat I have and replace it. There was also another spring that was broken about half an inch from where it attaches to the slot in the frame, just cut that off and bent it, and welded it back to the frame slot. I also added a few thin metal bar stock pieces weaved in and out of the top springs to help distribute the weight. Finished up by wrapping everything in cotton batting. Started putting the cover on the bottom and did a few tacks with the hog rings and noticed that the end corners were not as full as I would like. So I cut off a few hog rings and ordered up some additional foam to fill the corners. Once that gets here I can wrap up the seat and get it back into the truck. Need to address getting the seat belts cleaned up and on plastic buckle replaced or paint another black one I have to match the other Saddle ones.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
Great idea on the metal bar stock. I already redid my seat on my C10, but I’m going to be redoing the rear seat on my chevelle so I will try it there.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
While I am driving the truck and finishing up on the interior items over the next week or so I wanted to do a little project today to move the ball forward. Decided to refurbish the gear shift knobs. I started with pulling them off and cleaning really well with some soap and water and a scrub brush. Needed to get 50 years of grime off before trying to repaint the patterns.
After all was dry I wiped down with some Acetone and then wiped down really good with wax-n-grease remover. Then sprayed some gloss white paint into the cap of the spray paint can and painted the area with a brush a few times over to fill the pattern and not to worry about getting paint outside of the pattern. Once that dried for a few hours out in the sun I started to wet sand over the top with 2000 grit wet-n-dry paper soaked in soapy water. Then moved on to 1000 grit and finished it up with some McGuiar's cleaner wax on the 3" orbital buffer. Looks way better now and only took about 15 minutes of my time today. Now just need to finish up the other one on the transfer case.

Re: 70 K10 the Teal Deal
While waiting for the temperatures to cool down a bit so I can re-paint the areas that I have repaired on the body, decided to address a few other small items that I wanted to change.
The truck runs amazing except for after it sits for a few days all of the gas in the carburetor leaks down and takes a bit of cranking to get it started. I thought maybe a quick band-aid would be to put a check valve in line to stop the gas from leaking down. That did not work so I decided to rebuild the Edlebrock 1406 carburetor that was sitting in the bed when I bought it. So I ordered up a rebuild kit, got it torn down, and soaked in carb cleaner. While that was going on my brother recommended trying one of these knockoff carbs from Amazon that are under $200 dollars. So I searched it up on the interweb and found that the carb was also a Prime deal so I ordered it and figured I have 30 days to return for a full refund if I don't like it. The carb showed up two days later and could not believe how well it was built. Lots of extra parts, filters, jets, gaskets, fuel lines and clamps came with the kit. Bolted it on and it fired right up when I cranked it over. The truck had sat for about 8 days while I was out of town and I figured this would be the true test. I opened the door and reached over and turned the key, soon has it was in the start position the truck fired right up and idled perfectly. For now, it is a keeper, if not I will install the rebuilt Edlebrock and use this carburetor on one of my other trucks. Also installed a coolant overflow, which for now is just zip tied to battery bracket and heater hoses. I Will move to the inner fender location tucked back by the battery for a more solid mount and to get it out of the way. Then installed a Grant Classic steering wheel since the wheel on the truck is for a square body.
