Drip Rail Seam Sealer?

I have 2 small cracks in seam sealer to roof panel and would like to fill those and use touch up paint I have over it. These are very small, about 1" long, areas where there is slight separation. I want to fill that so water des not enter.

Is this what to use or?

I have never had much luck "patching" seam sealer. There is already dampness in the cracks that it would lock the moisture in. And promote corrosion. Best bet with seam sealer is clean out old, repair/treat the metal. Then reseal it and paint.

It's not what you want to heal, but patching is just not normally very successful.

He's correct. My drip rail had hairline cracks, also. I took a small wire wheel on a drill and it really shredded the old dry sealer. I used a 3M caulk I purchased at an auto paint store. Caulk it on and smooth to the contour of the rail. One thing about the 3M sealer is it took forever to dry in cooler weather and of course it needs to cure before priming. There are different brands available. Talk to an auto paint supplier. Don't try to patch it if your gonna keep your truck. If it rusts underneath you'll be sorry. Good luck.

You can also get the seam sealer that is a two part epoxy. I am unsure of the brand but the body shop, that painted my truck, used epoxy. They can't afford to wait days for it to dry. There is also self leveling type, that I have never used. Might be difficult to install with the contours of the roof?

I used SEM self leveling two part epoxy . I borrowed the caulking gun from a friend who owns a shop .

This crack is so minimal that wire brushing or grinding everything out, re-seal, then paint is way too big a hammer for this fix. I can fill it in with touch up paint. Its barely a crack in paint on about a 1" section. The crack is only as deep as the paint itself.

The clear 3M stuff I linked; anyone used it?

Post a picture of the problem your dealing with , Using a heavy bodied sealer won't work on a hairline crack . It's always easier to get good answers to any question with a picture .

On further review, I used a toothbrush to get any dust out and can see the hairline crack is just the paint layer. Touch up paint easily filled it

Seam sealer would have been way overkill

The truck was painted in 09. Its single stage paint and the touchup paint that was in glove box was perfect match. The paint code was also there so it could be reproduced also. Have the receipt for the paint from PO
